Tropical Storm Fay couldn't stop Valdosta and neither could Fort Valley State who fell 56-3 to the NCAA DII defending National Champions. Top-ranked Valdosta State compiled 555 yards of total offense in the first NCAA College football game of the 2008 season at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium Saturday evening.

Claflin University made it a clean sweep, going 3-0 in the first Trinidad and Tobago Hoops Classic. The newly-minted NCAA Division II Panthers did what the tournament was envisioned to do: showcase U.S. basketball in a nation where basketball is in its infancy.

Claflin University, the most recent addition to the SIAC, began play in the Trinidad & Tobago Hoops Classic. Claflin took the first victory of the tournament and subsequently their first victory as a Division II institution versus a tough Trinidad Team.

The SIAC Football Coaches Association has voted and is proud to announce the 2008 Preseason All Conference Football Team and Predicted Order of Finish. Highlighting the list are 29 returning players which ties a record high of returning players that was set year. Defending undefeated HBCU National Champion and SIAC Champion Tuskegee was selected by the Coaches Association to repeat as SIAC Champions. Tuskegee is also ranked #23 by the USA Today Preseason’s Poll.

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is proud to announce its 2008 Composite Football Schedule. Jumpstarting the Conference’s schedule is the 1st Collegiate football game of the year with Fort Valley State University taking on Defending National Champion Valdosta State on national television August 23, 2008. The game will air on CBS College Sports Network (formerly CSTV) and will mark the second year that an SIAC game will officially start the collegiate football season. Benedict College & Morehouse started the 2005 season on ESPNU on a Thursday night telecast.

At a press conference on Thursday, Claflin University Athletics Director Dr. Tim Autry announced that the University had received notification from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) that Claflin had achieved active member status in NCAA Division II, effective Sept. 1, 2008. On this date Claflin will also become an official member of the SIAC.
