Stillman gets 19 Letters of Intents
TUSCALOOSA, Ala.—Some of the major voids that were concerns for Stillman football coach Greg Thompson heading into the off-season were addressed on Wednesday’s National Signing Day. When the dust finally cleared, Thompson and his staff had received 19 National Letters-of-Intent, four more than the amount on the corresponding day a year-ago.
“We’re extremely satisfied because we’ve answered a lot of needs with this year’s class,” Thompson said. “This was a big day for us and our program. We’ve benefited tremendously from the fruits of our labor and this class shows that.”
Stillman’s National Signing Day class was led by two Eufaula High School standouts: Xavier Crews (FB/LB) and Desmund Thomas (DB). The class also received major signings from a trio of Atlanta area offensive lineman, including: Xavier Morgan (Martin Luther King), Kevin Lalor (Martin Luther King) and Timothy Demons (Booker T. Washington).
“We’ll be expecting a lot of these guys to come in and play for us right away,” Thompson said. “And based on our evaluation of them, some of them certainly have the capabilities to come in and make an immediate difference.”
Thompson, however, still remains hopeful that he’ll receive a few more key signings over the next few of weeks due to unexpected fallouts from some of the major schools.
“We still have a chance to get some major commitments from kids who have had some of the larger schools back off of them,” he said. “One of the main things we’ve tried to sell to each one of our recruits was our development here at Stillman—both academically and athletically.
“We had nearly every NFL team come in at some point during this past season to look at players we had who were not highly recruited out of high school. There’s not many school’s that we play that can boast that kind of achievement.”
