Kentucky State University head football coach Fred T. Farrier announced the 2008 Thorobred Football recruiting class. Coach Farrier stated, “We are very excited about this recruiting class. This group of student-athletes is a great mix of size and speed at several of the skill positions. I am very excited about the future of Kentucky State University Football and what this group brings to the table for the 2008 season and beyond.”

The 2008 Thorobred class will welcome 20 new student-athletes from high school and 6 student-athletes that enrolled at the beginning of the 2008 spring semester. The 26 new student-athletes include 7 recruits from the state of Kentucky. The class features 7 recruits from the state of Ohio, 5 from Michigan, 4 from Illinois, 2 from Indiana and 1 from Tennessee. This group is highlighted by 7 in-state recruits including Leland Banks from the state Class 3A champion Louisville Central High School and Dominique Alcorn from perennial state power Danville High School. The young men signed to national letters of intent are:

“We again tried to focus our efforts and get good results from our in-state recruiting. I believe the 7 recruits that we have from the Commonwealth will make a significant contribution to our football team. We had a great amount of success in Ohio, particularly Cleveland and went to Chicago for the first time in my tenure at Kentucky State. Several of our recruits come from very strong high school programs that have been extremely successful with giving their students an opportunity to go to college including Cleveland Glenville, Detroit Oak Park, Chicago Hubbard, Chicago Morgan Park and Chicago Martin Luther King. I want to commend my coaching staff and recruiting coordinator Brian White for the job they did in pulling this group of student-athletes together for our 2008 recruiting class. I expect that this group of young men will come to Kentucky State University intent on Entering to Learn with the expectation of Exiting to Serve and give us a great opportunity to move this program forward with our goal to WIN TEN and an SIAC Championship in 2008, ” said Head Coach Fred T. Farrier.

Kentucky State will be entering the fourth season with Fred T. Farrier as head football coach. The Thorobreds enjoyed consecutive winning seasons in his first two seasons as head coach and his win total of 13 in his first two seasons as head coach is the most wins of any head coach in school history during their first two years as head coach. The 2007 season was highlighted by 5 first-team All-SIAC selections, 3 second-team All-SIAC selections and 2 All-SIAC academic selections. Kentucky State opens the 2008 season in August of 2008
