Benedict gets #2 seed in the NCAA South Regional’s
The NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Committee announced the field of 64 teams for the 2008 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship. Twenty-two conferences, including the SIAC, have been awarded automatic qualification. The committee selected the remaining 42 teams at-large. Benedict College was the only team chosen from the SIAC and they received the #2 seed.
Seven of the regional tournaments, consisting of eight teams each, will be conducted March 15, 16 and 18 at regional sites. The West regional will be conducted March 14, 15 and 17. The eight quarterfinalists will advance to the finals at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, March 26, 27 and 29.
Benedict received the SIAC’s automatic bid due to their great season and winning the SIAC’s 75th Annual Basketball Tournament. The appearance is Benedict’s third in the past five years. They will face a familiar foe in the #7 seed Eckerd College, who defeated Benedict in last years opening round of the NCAA Regional’s. The South Regional games will be played on the campus of Florida Southern University in Lakeland, FL. Benedict will play at 12 pm on March 15, 2008.
