Albany State track and field coach & student-athlete win awards
The Albany State University head men’s track and field coach and a standout student athlete are the recipients of regional track and field awards. Marvin Oliver has been named the 2008 South Region Men’s Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year and Jana Mrozkova was named the South Region Women’s Field Athlete of the Year. Oliver and Mrozkova are two of 24 coaches and student-athletes honored by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
After finishing third in the triple jump at the 2007 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, Mrozkova, has the nation’s third best
mark (39 ½) in the triple jump. She is a senior from Trinec, Czech Republic. Two of Oliver’s athletes, Garrion Martin and Rodney Coley, will compete in the 60-meter dash during the indoor championships, set for March 14-15 at Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN. Mrozkova will not compete at the indoor nationals.
“It’s an honor to be selected for such an honor, but it’s all about the student-athletes,” Oliver said. “Our teams are successful because we have student-athletes who are willing to put in the extra time and effort to do what it takes to be winners.”
