Albany State wins Back to Back Softball Tournaments

In a rematch of last year’s Softball Championship game, Albany State University took care of business and brought home yet another SIAC Softball Title defeating the Golden Bears of Miles College 4-1. Head Coach Robert Skinner (Albany State) has led his Lady Rams to a second consecutive title and third in the last three years.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning where Albany State would score three runs. In the fifth
inning Miles would try and rally but could only muster 1 point, leaving 2 ladies on base. ASU would go on to score another run in the bottom of the fifth and Mindy Mager (Pitcher, ASU) would take over from there. Mager got the final batter to pop out to centerfield and the rest is history. ASU’s Outfielder Samantha Hastings and Utility player Kandis Tate were named to the All Tournament Team. Tate was also named the Tournament’s Most Valuable Player and Coach Robert Skinner was named the Tournament’s Outstanding Coach.
To advance to the final game Miles defeated Clark Atlanta University. Miles received stellar performance from their Pitcher Teela Weatherspoon. Weatherspoon dominated the tournament and led their team to the championship game en route to being named to the All Tournament Team. Catch Kenyata Johnson and Second baseman Kim Tyson were also named to the All Tournament Team. CAU finished in third place in the tournament.
