Albany State wins 5th SIAC Track & Field Championship

For the fourth consecutive year Albany State women have taken home the SIAC Track & Field Championships. With the title ASU has won their 5th SIAC title.
Candace Camp of Albany State dominated the entire meet finishing 1st in the triple jump, finishing second in the heptathlon, finishing sixth in the women’s shot put, finishing third in the long jump, third in the high jump, third in the javelin, en route to taking home the honor of Women’s Field Events Most Valuable Athlete. Camp scored 33 of ASU’s 294.50 points in the meet. Albany State outscored Clark Atlanta, who finished in 2nd place by 134 points who finished second in the meet with 160 points. Fort Valley State University finished third in the meet.
Estella Moore (100m), Cheri Brockington, (Heptathlon), Roxanne Griffin (200m, 400m) Candace Edmonds (400m IH), Tamika Kinchen, (800m, 1500m), Shanika Birdsong (100 HH), 4×100m relay and 4×400m relay for Albany State all finished in 1st place leading to the dominate victory.
Irine Chepkoech from Benedict College had another stellar performance as she scored the most points of all competitors in running events with 30. She was named the SIAC Women’s Track Most Valuable Performer. Candace Camp was named SIAC Women’s Field Most Valuable Performer scored after scoring 33 field events points.
Coach Marvin Oliver of Albany State was named the Outstanding Coach of the Championship Meet.
