Golf is back in the SIAC
The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teed off the resurgent SIAC Golf Championship today. Benedict College, Kentucky State University, Morehouse College, Paine College and LeMoyne-Owen College made history in Albany, GA today teeing off the championship for the first time since 1980. Paine College holds a slight lead amongst the five teams in the tournament. They finished the day shooting a 321 at the Flint River Golf Course.
After the first day Phillip Allen of Morehouse College (pictured above), scored the lowest score of 73 on the par 71 course. Morehouse also had three kids shoot under 80. Leading scorers for each team include Olajuweu Ajanaku of Benedict shooting a 78, Nicholas Morrow of Kentucky State shooting a 77, and Sean Lucas of Paine College shooting a 76. Allen of Morehouse shot par on the back nine and if it wasn’t for two fives on a couple of par fours would have shot a par on the day.
Round two will begin at 9:00 am on Tuesday, April 22, 2008. Paine College will be the first team to tee off followed by Morehouse, Kentucky State and Benedict. The Golf Championship is the first championship since 1980 when the conference ending the golf programs at most of the institutions.
