Albany State selected for NCAA DII Softball Regional

sb2.jpgThe NCAA Division II Softball Committee has selected the 64 teams that will participate in the 2008 NCAA Division II Softball Regional Championships. Albany State will represent the SIAC as the eight seed and will face the #1 seed Barry College.
Albany State received an automatic bid due to its domination of the SIAC and taking home consecutive SIAC Spring Sports Championships. Last year Albany State fell early to the #1 seed Valdosta State 8-3 in the first round. They later moved on to face Arkansas-Monticello but fell 9-7 in an elimination game. This year Albany State (33-20) will face #1 seed and South Regional host Barry College (40-6) on May 7 in Miami Shores, Florida. Albany State is led by SIAC Spring Sports Tournament MVP Utility Kandis Tate and Regular Season MVP Pitcher Mindy Mager.

Eight teams will participate at each of eight regional sites in double-elimination tournaments to determine the final eight championship participants. Regional competition will be held May 7-11. Winners will advance to the finals May 14-17 in Houston, Texas, as part of the NCAA Division II National Championships Festival.
