Bormann named Athletic Director at Lane College

lane_greg_borrman.jpgLane College president Wesley McClure has announced the appointment of Gregory Bormann as the college’s new athletic director.

Bormann takes the reins of the athletic department immediately, succeeding Dearrion Snead, who had served as interim athletic director and head football coach. Snead will now continue his football coaching duties exclusively.

“This is one of the most pleasant appointments that I have made during my tenure at Lane College,” McClure said. “Coach Bormann has all the talents and abilities to lead the athletics department into a new era.”

Bormann takes the program over in the wake of a number of scholarship revocations and probation from the NCAA earlier this year after a high number of various violations committed in different areas of the athletic department.

McClure said the decision to promote Bormann to athletic director was an easy one considering his enthusiasm for improving the Lane’s athletics program.

“I appreciate the confidence that President McClure has placed in me,” Bormann said. “I am thrilled about this unique opportunity to contribute to the elevation of our sports program, and I pledge to do my utmost to show the president that his faith in me is well-founded.”

In addition to his past duties at Lane, which also included positions as the Dragons’ assistant football coach, sports information director, baseball coach and faculty member in health and physical education, Bormann’s professional experience includes stints as an assistant coach at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Cerritos College in Norwalk, Calif., and Citrus College in, Glendora, Calif.
