Tamica Jones named to the NCAA Committee of Women’s Athletics
The NCAA has announced the appointment of Tamica Jones of Clark Atlanta University to the NCAA Committee of Women’s Athletics. Jones will serve beginning September 1, 2008 through September 1, 2012.
The NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics provides leadership and assistance to the NCAA in its efforts to provide equitable opportunities, fair treatment and respect for all women in all aspects of intercollegiate athletics. The committee seeks to expand and promote opportunities for female student-athletes, administrators and coaches.The committee promotes governance, administration and conduct of intercollegiate athletics at the institutional, conference and national levels that are inclusive, fair and accessible to women.The committee also develops programs and resources, which can be of practical use to the association in its effort to achieve these ends. This committee is made of 15 members, including six members from Division I, three members from Division II and three members from Division III.
Tamica Jones stated “I am excited about this appointment and the opportunity to extend my leadership and assistance to the association in its efforts to provide equitable opportunities, fair treatment, and respect for all women in all aspects of intercollegiate athletics. I hope that my ideas and recommendations particularly make a significant impact as we seek to expand and promote opportunities for female student-athletes, administrators, and coaches. ”
Tamica Smith Jones, a native of Atlanta, GA, is the Senior Woman Administrator/Compliance Coordinator and currently the overseer of Day-to-Day Operations of Athletics at Clark Atlanta University. Prior to her arrival at CAU she served as Senior Associate Athletics Director/SWA, along with several coaching assignments at Morris Brown College, Atlanta, GA (1999-2002). She began her career in intercollegiate athletic administration at Savannah State University, where she was appointed interim head women’s volleyball and basketball coach, while obtaining her Master’s Degree (1997-1999).
As an author (2006 self-published autobiography “A Ball and A Dream”), philanthropist, motivational speaker, life skills coach, business professional, and consultant, Tamica, is a spirit filled enthusiast who enjoys supporting student-athletes in their pursuit of higher education.
Dr. Jones earned her B.S. Degree in Business Management from Alabama A&M University, AL in 1997 and Master’s of Public Administration Degree from Savannah State University, GA in 1999 on full athletic scholarships. She realized that talent could take you far but education could take you even further. She proclaims that knowledge is addictive, the more you know, the more you want to know. At age 30, she obtained her Doctorate Degree in Business Administration from Kennedy-Western University, Cheyenne, WY in February 2005.
She is a member of several professional organizations such as National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (since 2001), NCAA Women’s Coaches Academy (2005) and Dimension II (2006), graduate of the NACWAA/HERS Institute (2006), National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, and National Association for Athletics Compliance. She has served as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference SWA chair, regional committee designee for the sport volleyball, presented for NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills Continuing Education, facilitated the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills Orientation and participated in the NCAA Division II Leadership Action Academy. Her recent and most distinguished achievements include the NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Females (Class of 2007) and her two year appointment to serve on the NCAA Committee for Women’s Athletics.
A high-flyer in the sports field, Jones has built a tremendous amount of success in a short timeframe. She credits her success ultimately to the favor of God, who predestined and positions and also experiences as a former student-athlete. “As a student-athlete I learned that no matter how you get the baton…off the ground or someone hands it to you, you must get it and run! This lesson has held true throughout my athletic administration career.”
Tamica Jones joins a long list of SIAC personnel currently serving on a NCAA committee. Dr. Ernest McNealey, Stillman College President, currently serves on the Division II President’s Council. Athletic Director Willie Washington of Benedict College serves on the Division II Management Council along with Stephanie Harrison-Dyer. Mrs. Harrison-Dyer, also serves on the Administrative Review Subcommittee, the Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee and the Honors Committee. She is the Assistant Director of Athletics/Compliance Officer and Senior Woman Administrator for Albany State University.

Hello Dr.Jones, I am an African Am. male who is also 2008-2009 Mr.Delta State University in Cleveland,MS and I just want to applaude your accomplishments. Doc what you are doing and the things you have done, is so admirable. For a sister, its sometimes harder to accomplish things than the black males because of all the stereo types. You are doing the darn thang, keep it going. President of the U.S.? MAYBE!

This is Brandon Miller from the CAU Men’s Cross Country and Track team. I just wanted to commend you on being selected to such a prestigious Committee. Since I’ve arrived on the Campus of Clark Atlanta University, you’ve been nothing short of tremendous as for as making sure that our athletic program at Clark Atlanta University and the athletes have reached their full potential. This is James Johnson Jr. Im a former member of CAU Mens Basketball Team, and thanks to you alumni of CAU. It was you who helped me and sat in on my senior project which was the final step to my graduation. Congrats on all that you have accomplished and keep striving to make CAU athletes the best student athletes.
