NCAA DII Outdoor Regional Track & Field Championship Recaps

m-track-5.jpg Morehouse College hosted the NCAA Division II South Region Track & Field Championships on Saturday, May 3.  Edwin Moses Track at B.T. Harvey Stadium featured athletes from the SIAC, Atlantic Sun, Sunshine State conference and several independent schools all vying for the opportunity to qualify for the Division II National Championships in Mount Sac, CA, May 22-24.  Albany State men and Women dominated the field of 14 colleges from around the region with the ASU men taking home the meet victory.

 

Brian Witherspoon & Terrance Stringer added to NFL

nfl-logo.jpgBrian Witherspoon of Stillman College and Terrance Stringer of Tuskegee University are added to the list of NFL hopefuls.   Witherspoon signed an undisclosed deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Stringer has verbally agreed to a deal with the New York Giants but has not signed an official deal as of yet.

 

Michael Grant Named Stillman Men’s Basketball Coach

michael-grant1.jpgFormer Southern University coach, Michael Grant, has been officially named Stillman’s head men’s basketball coach, athletics director Curtis Campbell announced this weekend.

 

Men’s & Women’s Tennis Recaps from this weekends action

tennis-pic-1.jpgIn SIAC Men's & Women's Tennis Action, Stillman lost to Southern Arkansas 9-0, Fort Valley State Men lost to Florida Tech 8-1 and Fort Valley State Women lost 7-2 in an incomplete match.  Benedict  college defeated Albany State 5-3 in a make up session from the SIAC Tennis  Roundup.

 

Stillman gets 19 Letters of Intents

sc-logo.jpgTUSCALOOSA, Ala.—Some of the major voids that were concerns for Stillman football coach Greg Thompson heading into the off-season were addressed on Wednesday’s National Signing Day. When the dust finally cleared, Thompson and his staff had received 19 National Letters-of-Intent, four more than the amount on the corresponding day a year-ago.

 

SIAC Women’s Basketball Action Recap Jan. 19-21, 2008

johnson-sc.jpgThe Women's SIAC recap includes Fort Valley State continuing their winning ways defeating Benedict and Albany State continuing a winning streak winning 7 of their last eight games including a big victory over Paine on the road. LeMoyne-Owen took a victory over Stillman but fell short against Tuskegee. Arch Rivals Miles and Stillman nearly went to overtime but Miles prevailed late. And the Clark Atlanta vs. Kentucky State game and Miles vs. Tuskegee were cancelled due to the snow storm that came through Georgia and Alabama on Saturday. Sylbrena Johnson of Stillman (left) had a stellar weekend despite two losses.

 

SIAC Men’s Basketball Action Weekend Recap Jan. 19-21, 2008

mhc-_42.jpgThe weekend wrap includes Morehouse continuing their unbeaten streak at home as they outlast Lane. Benedict defeating Fort Valley State, while LeMoyne-Owen sweeps through the state of Alabama defeating Stillman and Tuskegee. Stillman bounced back to defeat Miles on MLK day and Tuskegee, Clark Atlanta, Kentucky State and Lane experienced the winter wonderland in Atlanta as a Snow storm cancelled some SIAC Action.

 

Two SIAC Players named to the Cactus Bowl

Valero Cactus BowlKingsville -- Six players from HBCUs including two from the SIAC have been named to participate in the 2008 Valero Cactus Bowl. Rosters were released Thursday for the Division II All-Star game to be played at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville, Texas on Friday, January 11, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Brian Witherspoon and Denatay Heard from Stillman College will be joined by Johnson C. Smith's De’Audra Dix, Virginia State's Anthony Hailstock, Fayetteville State's Eric Lamoureux and St. Augustine's Alex Hall on the East squad. The selection committee picked from among the best seniors in NCAA Division II football for the game which will be regionally televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
