Doug Porter named to the NFF & College Hall of Fame

nff.jpgArchie Manning, chairman of The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF), announced today the 2008 Divisional Hall of Fame Class. Included in the list is former Mississippi Valley State, Howard and Fort Valley State mentor Doug Porter.

 

Brian Witherspoon & Terrance Stringer added to NFL

nfl-logo.jpgBrian Witherspoon of Stillman College and Terrance Stringer of Tuskegee University are added to the list of NFL hopefuls.   Witherspoon signed an undisclosed deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Stringer has verbally agreed to a deal with the New York Giants but has not signed an official deal as of yet.

 

Ed Williams signs with Tennessee Titans

williams_mug.jpgThe Tennessee Titans have signed rookie free agent Ed Williams. Ed Williams’s contract was undisclosed but he signed on Monday, April 28 just one day removed from the NFL Draft weekend.

 

Curtis Johnson signs with Indianapolis Colts

cj-headshot.jpgThe Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL) have signed Clark Atlanta University Defensive End Curtis Johnson as a free agent. Johnson and the Colts came to terms on a three-year contract over the NFL Draft Weekend (April 25-27, 2008), and Johnson becomes the second CAU player under head coach Ted Bahhur to be signed by an NFL team (Jonathan Hamm signed with the New Orleans Saints last year).

 

Kentucky State adds Guy Morriss to Football Staff

Farrier has announced three (3) additions to the Thorobred coaching staff for the 2008 football season.  The new coaches are Guy Morriss, Garry Fisher and Kenyatta McCoy.  Guy Morriss  is the first former BCS Head Coach to coach in the SIAC.

 

SIAC to hold Press Conference to announce continuance of Hall of Fame

siac-hof.jpgThe Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the City of Birmingham and the Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce the continuation of the SIAC Hall of Fame and the inaugural Hall of Fame Classic scheduled for September 27, 2008.  The Hall of Fame football game will feature Albany State University vs. Benedict College in Legion Field for the first contest and will continue on the last Saturday in September.  The City of Birmingham and the Convention and Visitors Bureau recently won a bid to host the classic for three years: 2008 – 2010.  A press conference is scheduled for March 4, 2008 at 3:00 pm at the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame to announce this historic event.

 

SBN Sports award the 2007 Black College All Americans in Atlanta

natlchamps.jpg This past weekend in Atlanta, GA at the Marriot Marquis, the American Urban Radio Networks (AURN) awarded the members of the 2007 SBN Sports Black College All-American (BCAA) Team.  Eighteen schools were represented on the list, led by three honors for the SBN Black College National Champion Tuskegee Golden Tigers. Clark Atlanta was the only other SIAC team with a member on the 2007 SBN Sports Black College All Americans.

 

Tuskegee’s Head Football Coach, Willie Slater and 4 SIAC Players Named to the Don Hansen’s All America Team

dh-logo.jpgPITTSBURG, Kan. — Coach Willie Slater, after leading Tuskegee to a 12-0 record, a SIAC Championship and capturing the National Black Championship was named Co-National Coach of the Year headling the 2007-08 Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division II All-America Team.  Amongst the recipients of this distinguished honor were four SIAC football players named to one of the three teams while three others were named to the honorable mention team.

 

Tuskegee Football Reloads adding 31 Recruits on National Signing Day

tu-logo.jpgTUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY, AL – Head coach Willie Slater of Tuskegee University added 31 new members to the Golden Tigers’ football squad today. Twenty-five seniors and 6 junior college transfers are set to join the Golden Tigers for the 2008 football season. The newest players signed their letters of intent on Feb. 6, the NCAA’s National Signing Day.

 

Kentucky State receives 20 NLI’s to have 2nd Largest SIAC Class

Coach Farrier stated, “We are very excited about this recruiting class. This group of student-athletes is a great mix of size and speed at several of the skill positions. I am very excited about the future of Kentucky State University Football and what this group brings to the table for the 2008 season and beyond.”
