Michael Grant Named Stillman Men’s Basketball Coach

michael-grant1.jpgFormer Southern University coach, Michael Grant, has been officially named Stillman’s head men’s basketball coach, athletics director Curtis Campbell announced this weekend.

 

Benedict, Claflin, Tuskegee, & Kentucky St. named to BCSP Top 10

bcsp.jpg In the latest Black College Sports Page HBCU Top Ten Basketball Polls, Benedict College and Claflin University nearly bookmark the rankings finishing 1st & 9th respectively. On the woman's side Tuskegee finished in 5th place while Kentucky State finished in 8th place. Largely in part to their domination of the SIAC and their historic run in the NCAA Tournaments, the SIAC had the most ever teams in the BCSP polls and the first ever finish at the number one spot. The SIAC congratulates all of the Top 10 teams.

 

Benedict’s winning streak is snapped ending their run in the NCAA Division II Tournament

basketball_vr.jpgNorth Alabama beat Benedict College in the second half of the championship basketball game played Tuesday at George Jenkins Field House at the Florida Southern Campus. North Alabama upset Benedict 97-75 snapping Benedict's winning streak of 17 games and ending their season at 28-5.

 

Benedict to hold Press Conference

The Press Conference will be held in the Benjamin E. Mays Human Resource Center Arena (BC GYM). Light refreshments will be served.

 

Lewis leads Benedict to NCAA DII South Regional Championship Game

b-lewis-2.jpgBennie Lewis scored 20 points to lead four players in double figures as #2 Benedict downed #3 Tampa, 73-59, to advanced to the championship game of the NCAA Division II South Regional Men's Basketbal Tournamenrt to be played Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Jenkins Field House on the campus of Florida Southern College.

 

Holmes leads Benedict to the 2nd Round of NCAA Regionals

b-lewis.jpg #2 seed Benedict defeated #7 seed Eckerd 70-49. SIAC Freshman of the Year and SIAC Tournament MVP Michael Holmes added a game high 19 points and 6 rebounds to lead the way for Benedict. Bennie Lewis scored 18 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.

 

Benedict gets #2 seed in the NCAA South Regional’s

img_0022.jpgThe NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Committee announced the field of 64 teams for the 2008 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship. Twenty-two conferences, including the SIAC, have been awarded automatic qualification. The committee selected the remaining 42 teams at-large. Benedict College was the only team chosen from the SIAC and they received the #2 seed.

 

SIAC Basketball Tournament Day 4 Recaps-Tuskegee Surges On

SIAC Basketball Tournament Day 3 Recaps-TU advances in Double OT

tu-wins.jpg In todays action both #2 seeds got upset. #2 seed Fort Valley State women's team lost a tough game against Stillman and #2 LeMoyne-Owen for the men was upset by Tuskegee in double overtime. Fort Valley State Men defeated Paine in a nail biter 71-66 and Kentucky State destroyed LeMoyne-Owen on the women's side.

 

SIAC Basketball Tournament Day 2 Recaps

cau-tourny.jpg The second day of the SIAC Tournament Action was filled with drama, controversy, upsets and a double overtime victory. Clark Atlanta leads the storm as both their Men & Women's team advance to the Semi-Finals. #1 seed Benedict College for the Men advance in a double overtime victory over Albany State, #1 seed Tuskegee for the women advance easily over Paine. Both Miles Men and women lost in dramatic upset fashion.
