At a press conference on Thursday, Claflin University Athletics Director Dr. Tim Autry announced that the University had received notification from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) that Claflin had achieved active member status in NCAA Division II, effective Sept. 1, 2008. On this date Claflin will also become an official member of the SIAC.
The President's Council of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and conference office, have decided to cancel the 2008 SIAC Summer Meetings/Kick-Off Luncheon. The event will resume next summer at a date to be determined.

The Circle City Classic has canceled the first game of a proposed doubleheader on October 4 celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the event. The game would have featured Kentucky State and Central State and was scheduled to kickoff at 1:00pm in the new Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The Albany State University head men’s track and field coach and a standout student athlete are the recipients of regional track and field awards. Marvin Oliver has been named the 2008 South Region Men's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year and Jana Mrozkova was named the South Region Women’s Field Athlete of the Year. Oliver and Mrozkova are two of 24 coaches and student-athletes honored by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
NEW ORLEANS – The 2007 NCAA Division II USTFCCA Men's All Academic Cross Country Athlete of the Year was announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. On the list were two Benedict College stand out Cross Country members, Oneil Williams and Titus Rotich.
The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has launched a new look for the SIAC Basketball Tournament with a new logo commemorating the 75th Men's & 30th Women's Basketball Tournament.
