Fort Valley State University
Fort Valley State University is a comprehensive, four-year institution providing an educational experience of exceptional quality. For over a century Fort Valley State has led the way as the only 1890 land grant school in the state with a mission in academics, research, extension and service.
Located in picturesque Peach County, the thirteen hundred acre campus is the second largest (10 acreage) public university in the state. The campus is built on cutting edge technology including ultra-modern research facilities available for agriculture and science programs. Classrooms and instructional facilities are state-of-the-art and fiber optic cables link every major building, including six residence balls.
The University offers bachelor’s degrees in over fifty majors from the College of Arts & Sciences, College of Education, Graduate and Special Academic Programs and the College of Agriculture, Home Economics and Allied Programs.
The biology department is leading the state in preparing African-American students for medical and health professions. Fort Valley State has the only certified veterinary technology program in the state of Georgia, and there are extensive opportunities for career exploration, undergraduate research and internships. Every year hundreds of employers recruit FVSU’s graduating seniors.
There are more than seventy clubs, sororities, fraternities and social organizations on campus. Fort Valley State University is a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and the NCAA on the Division II level. Fort Valley State fields teams in six female sports: basketball, tennis, cross country. volleyball, softball, and track and field. Male sports include football, basketball, cross-country, track and field, and tennis. A new state of the art health and physical education complex (pictured at left), which features an arena that seats over 5,000, will be the home of volleyball as well as men’s and women’s basketball.
Fort Valley State University’s faculty is selected from among the nation’s leading scholars, researchers and practitioners in their respective fields of study. The primary goal of the faculty is to expose students to views that will challenge critical reasoning, independent thinking and relativity, while motivating students to be progressive, productive, contributing members of society.
