Hannah Named to SBN All-America Team; Slater and Hannah to Receive Awards

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Tuskegee’s all-conference defensive back and SIAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Justin Hannah, was recently selected as a member of the 2009 Sheridan Broadcasting Network Black College All-America team.  The 5-foot-10 senior defensive back will be honored along with other players, Feb. 12-13, at the 35th Annual SBN Sports Black College All-American Awards at the Doubletree Resort in Orlando, Fla. 

Hannah’s other accomplishments for 2009 include: First Team All-SIAC; First Team Pre-Season All-SIAC; D2Football.com All-SIAC Pre-Season Team; voted by coaches as the SIAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year; named to the Daktronics All-Super Region 2 Second Team; SIAC Defensive Player of the Week (Oct. 10); National Division II Player of the Week by HRSN; Second Team, Boxtorow.com/BASN All-American team as chosen by selected media that cover black college football.

In a poll of nationwide fan voters, the Birmingham, Ala., native and West End High School graduate, garnered 185,951 votes to win the Heritage Sports Radio Network Division II National Player of the Year.

He played in the Russell HBCU Senior Bowl last month in Montgomery, Ala., recording an interception for his west squad.

This season, including the Russell Senior Bowl, Hannah finished with 47 tackles, six passes broken up and four interceptions, with one returned for a touchdown.

During a stellar four-year career at Tuskegee, Hannah registered 115 tackles (85 solos), 17 interceptions and 22 pass breakups.  He leaves Tuskegee with a 42-5 won-lost team record, four SIAC championships, four championship rings and three Pioneer Bowl victories.  The three-time All-SIAC pick (2007, 2008 and 2009) returned three of his 17 career interceptions for touchdowns.
 
Hannah and head coach Willie Slater were selected by The Pigskin Club of Washington, D.C., to receive the Charles B. Fisher and Oliver M. Thompson awards, respectively, honoring them for SIAC Coach of the Year and SIAC Player of the Year, respectively..  They will attend the 72nd Annual Awards Dinner, on Friday, Jan. 15, at the Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington.  This year’s honor for Coach Slater marks the third straight year he has received the Oliver M. Thompson Award (2007, 2008 and 2009). 

Slater, SIAC Coach of the Year, guided his 2009 team to the SIAC conference championship for the four straight year (10-2, 8-1 SIAC).  The three-time SIAC Coach of the Year has an amazing .894 winning percentage at Tuskegee, 42-5 in four seasons.
