Sports Business Symposium to take place at SIAC Basketball Tournament

Atlanta, GA—The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, in partnership with the Morehouse College Journalism and Sports Program, will host the first annual SIAC Sports Business and Policy Symposium as a part of the 77th SIAC Basketball Tournament. The event will be held on March 2, 2010, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Bank of America Auditorium, inside the Leadership Center at Morehouse College. The topic of discussion will be “Life after the Locker Room,” which focuses on helping college athletes make better academic and career decisions.

 
The panel will feature a group of prominent sports writers, former athletes, and sports figures. They include sports columnist, author, and ESPN The Sports Reporters panelist William C. Rhoden, Doug and Ryan Stewart of the syndicated radio show Two Live Stews, as well as former Olympic track stars Tommie Smith and Joetta Clark Diggs. The panel also includes NCAA Vice President Robert Vowels, money management expert Dennis Hinton, and former pro football player Danny Buggs, who now is the director of HBCU Inner-City Ministries for the Fellowship of Christian Athletics.
 
The event is open to the public. Space is limited so plan to arrive early.

Joetta Clark Diggs, 4-time Olympian in track and field, a former Commissioner of Sports for the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, founder of Joetta Sports & Beyond.
 
Doug Stewart, co-host of the Two Live Stews, a nationally syndicated radio show and frequent contributor on ESPN 2’s First Take.
 
Ryan Stewart, co-host of the Two Live Stews, a nationally syndicated radio show and frequent contributor on ESPN 2’s First Take, former Georgia Tech All-American, former NFL defensive back with the Detroit Lions.
 
Dennis Hinton, founder of Resource Asset Management Corp. that specializes in financial planning and money management. Frequently appears on television and writes articles about personal finance.
 
Robert Vowels, NCAA Vice President of Educational Affairs, former Commissioner of the SIAC & SWAC.
 
Danny Buggs, director of National Inner-City Ministry and Inner-City Atlanta for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, former NFL wide receiver with the Washington Redskins and New York Giants.
