SIAC announces 2010 Track & Field All-Conference/All-Academic Teams

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference all conference track & field teams have been selected, as voted on by the coaches. The men’s team is led by athletes of the year Antoine Thomas of Albany State (Track) and Laquan Prist of Claflin (Field). Thomas ran a conference-best 20.80 in the 200-meters (Alice Coachman Invitational). Prist had a conference-best 15.14 meters in the triple jump (North Carolina A&T Invitational).

 

Men’s Track & Field Coach of the Year is Benedict coach Frank Hyland.

 

Leading the way on the women’s team is athletes of the year Portia Wilson of Fort Valley State (Track) and Melinda Bastian (Field). Wilson ran a conference-best in both the 100-meters (Alice Coachman Invitational) and the 200-meters (USC Weems Baskin Invitational) with times of 11.69 and 24.47 respectively. Bastian posted the conference’s highest score in the shot put (North Carolina A&T Invitational) with a throw of 11.98 meters.

 

Women’s Track & Field Coach of the Year is Fort Valley State coach Elakeisha O’Kelley.
