Claflin Names Tucker Head Women’s Basketball Coach

Ms. Tiffany Tucker, former assistant women’s basketball coach at Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C., was appointed the new Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Claflin University Tuesday.

Coach Tucker, a 2006 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was chosen from three finalists. Dr. Timothy Autry said,” I believe we chose the best for the best. Coach Tiffany Tucker will do her best, and she is the best fit for our program here at Claflin University. “
Prior to coaching at FMU, Coach Tucker served as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Radford University, Allegheny College in Pennsylvania and Carrboro High School in North Carolina. She also coached AAU for two years. She takes over a team that finished last season with a 5-15 record amid a mid-season coaching change.
“I am looking forward to serving this institution and leading the women’s basketball program to the success which our alumni are accustomed,” said Coach Tucker.
Claflin University competes in the NCAA Division II Southern Intercollegiate Conference. The women’s basketball team has a rich history of success, winning 20 EIAC Championships, two NAIA runner-up finishes, to go along with four final four appearances in the NAIA National Tournament.
“The Claflin Family welcomes Coach Tucker to the Depatment of Athletics. Dr. Autry said. “We are looking forward to ushering in the ‘Tucker era’ this coming season.”
