Miles at Clark Atlanta
A homecoming victory for Clark Atlanta University in front of a crowd of more than 20,000, was conceivable until Miles College’s kicker Patton Chambers’ 18-yard field goal with 23 seconds remaining in the game lifted the Golden Bears over CAU 19-16 Saturday at Panther Stadium.
Anderson Davis put Clark Atlanta (2-4, SIAC 2-2) on the board first with a three-yard touchdown run in the second quarter which gave the Panthers a slim advantage. Miles (3-3, SIAC 2-1) then tied the game with its own one-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback David Thomas. A 7-7 tie remained at the half.
Running back Rashad Lewis’ three-yard run put the Panthers ahead 13-6, before a Miles safety by Alexander Morris made it a four-point game, 13-9, in the third quarter.
Miles struck early in the fourth quarter with a 10-yard pass from David Thomas to K.C. Logan that gave the Golden Bears their first lead of the game at 16-13. But the Panthers orchestrated a 64-yard drive on its next possession which led to a Kemuel Lawrence 30-yard field goal conversion that knotted the game at 16.
A 38-yard reception by Vondragu Hudson moved the Golden Bears to the Panthers four-yard line with 58 seconds remaining, and Chambers’ chip shot from the one-yard sealed the road win for Miles.
Defensively, Charles Alford and Ricky Moore led the Panthers with 11 tackles each. Alford also recorded two of his tackles for losses, and Harrison Porter finished with four of his seven tackles for losses. Clark Atlanta’s Chris Alexander finished with the game’s only interception. Julanta English led Miles with seven tackles.
CAU gained 241 total offensive yards and the Golden Bears netted 345 yards with 142 belonging to Jordan Lewis who recorded 110 yards rushing and 32 receiving yards. Clark Atlanta’s Lewis led the Panthers with 48 rushing yards, and Terrance Milton’s five catches for 65 yards yielded the most receiving yards for the Panthers.

Fort Valley State at Kentucky State
Kentucky State University’s homecoming game was an exciting battle for the victory. The Thorobreds battled their way past the Fort Valley Wildcats with a 25-24 victory Saturday afternoon. The victorious game was an addition to KSU celebrating 125 years of excellence.
Kentucky State elected to receive the ball for the first half. The Thorobreds were unsuccessful on their opening drive of the game. The Wildcat’s offense moved quickly in their first possession of the game. Travis Richmond had a 6 yard touchdown run with 12:14 left in the first quarter of the game. Kicker, Justin Rosenbaum capped off the possession with a successful kick.
The Thorobred offense speed slightly kicked up when freshman, Jacquise Lockett rushed for a 44 yard touchdown. Cade Berryman kick was successful to tie the score with 5:12 left in the first quarter.
Christopher Slaughter of the Wildcats finished off the first quarter with a reception from Rashad Johnson which resulted in a touchdown. Rosenbaum completed the drive with another successful kick. With 3:29 left in the first half, Fort Valley’s Rashad Johnson rushed for a yard that resulted in a touchdown with a successful kick followed up by Rosenbaum making the score 21-7 at the half.
The second half began slowly for both teams. Quarterback, Martez James rushed for a one yard touchdown with 6:47 left. Berryman’s kick was blocked which left the score 21-13 at the end of the third quarter with the Breds trailing Fort Valley.
The Thorobred defense held steady in the fourth quarter and limited the Wildcats to a field goal for the remaining of the game. Lockett showed more of his running game when he rushed for a 49 yard touchdown with 7:50 remaining on the clock. The offense’s two-point conversion failed leaving the score 24-19 with the Breds still trailing the Wildcats.
With a quick three and out from Fort Valley, KSU’s offense went back on the field setting up for a victory. James faked a handoff to a running back and instead rushed for 17 yards himself only leaving 2:07 on the clock for retaliation from the Wildcats.
Fort Valley attempted to set them up for field goal range but the Breds stopped them. Senior, Keith Massey intercepted a pass at KSU’s 14 yard line which claimed Kentucky State University’s homecoming victory.
The KSU duo of Justin Williams, 176 yards on 20 carries, and Jacquis Lockett, 138 yards on 14 carries, rushed for 214 of the Thorobreds 394 yards with Lockett also rushing for two touchdowns. FVSU’s Chris Slaughter led all receivers with five catches and 72 yards and a touchdown while Courtney Daniels had a game high 17 tackles, including eight solo.

Tuskegee vs. Morehouse
Morehouse clawed back from a 14-point deficit, to break a seven-game losing streak against Tuskegee, with a 17-14 win.
On a day when the Morehouse offense was slowed by the SIAC's best rushing defense, the Maroon Tiger defense took up the slack, holding Tuskegee to 181 total yards.
Led by Brandon Houston, with a game-high 11 tackles, The Maroon Tiger defense, recorded 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions.
Capitalizing on Morehouse mistakes and turnover, Tuskegee jumped out to a 14-0 lead, on the strength of two rushing touchdowns by quarterback Justin Nared from 16 and 10 yards, respectively.
Morehouse bounced back in the second quarter, when David Cater took it up the middle for a 20-yard touchdown run.
The Golden Tigers took a 14-7 lead into half.
In the second half, Morehouse dialed up a heavy dose of the running game and pressure defense, to hold the Golden Tigers scoreless.
Brandon Hoffman booted a 20-yard field goal in the third quarter, to pull Morehouse within four points, 14-10.
Quarterback Byron Ingram scored the final Morehouse touchdown on a one-yard run with 7:20 left in the game.
Player before his hometown crowd, Latavius Watts, a Columbus native, halted the final Tuskegee drive with an interception. In the first quarter, Charlie Wilson picked off an interception that he returned 33 yards.
Carter, who was awarded the Morehouse Player of the Game trophy, finished with 99 yards on 29 carries. It was the first time this season Carter has rushed for less than 100 yards.
Nared had 95 total yards, including 72 passing yards, for Tuskegee while rushing for two touchdowns, earning the Tuskegee’s Most Outstanding Player award.

Albany State at Lane
In front of a crowd of 1,078, the Lane College Dragons pulled a major upset over No.12 Albany State, 26-24, in Jackson, TN, defeating the Golden Rams for the first time in school history.
Lane scored the game’s first points of the game with 6:20 remaining in the first quarter on a one-yard run by quarterback McKinsley Marbury to cap off a 15-play, 55-yard drive.
The Golden Rams responded late in the first quarter with an 11-yard touchdown run by Nathan Hoyte to tie the game at seven.
Lane would score on their next possession when Marbury hit William Golston on a 17-yard touchdown pass but the PAT was blocked, giving the Dragons a 13-7 lead.
With 8:32 remaining the quarter, the Golden Rams took their first lead of the game when Stanley Jennings hooked up with Octavius Staton for a 23-yard touchdown pass. Lane’s Marbury would cap off an eight-play, 80-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run to put them back on top, 20-14.
The Golden Rams would answer once again with a 6-yard touchdown run by Hoyte to take a 21-20 lead into halftime.
After halftime, Lane would score the only points of the third quarter on Marbury’s third rushing touchdown of the game, this time from five yards out to give the Dragons a 26-21 lead.
The Golden Rams would add a 40-yard field goal by Brandon Hamilton early in the fourth quarter but it wouldn’t be enough as Lane would hold on for the victory.
McKinsley Marbury had a big game with 142 passing yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 142 yards along three touchdowns for the Dragons. ASU’s Nathan Hoyte rushed for 76 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns while Larry Whitfield and Bruce Ryles tied for a game-high 12 tackles.

Benedict at Stillman
The Stillman College Tigers blanked the visiting Benedict College Tigers 44-0 Saturday night at Stillman Stadium.
Stillman entered the game looking to erase last year's 35-0 loss at Benedict. Stillman head coach Teddy Keaton commented that the game was important for the mindset of the team and the psyche of the returning players who played in that contest.
A complete team effort was given as Stillman used huge defensive plays (leading to eight turnovers) and a strong second quarter to put the visiting BC Tigers away.
Stillman (5-1, 4-0) managed 37 points off six turnovers and had two late game turnovers led to opportunities for the hosting Tigers.
In the game, QB Dondre Purnell rushed ten times for 65 yards and a touchdown while completing 7-of-16 pass attempts for 156 yards and four touchdowns. WR Roger Dixon was the recepient of two of those passing touchdowns - both going for 27 yards each. Demond Holloway (2 rec., 64 yards) and Reese Sturgis (1 rec., 27 yards) also caught touchdowns in the game. RB Deandre Holley had 11 carries for 37 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, LB Jarell Thomas had nine tackles, a sack and three fumble recoveries. SS Ronrico Dunn and LB Larry Harris each had seven stops: Dunn added three pass breakups while Harris had two quarterback hurries and a tackle for loss. DT Jeremy Hall and DT Horace Griffin each had five tackles while CB Antonio Johnson had four tackles, two sacks (both leading to forced fumbles). DT Zamir Carlis and SS Skylar Williams also had four tackles.
Benedict’s Jamaal Massaline and Justin Shaw tied for a team-high seven tackles.
