Benedict Players Sweep First SIAC Baseball Weekly Honors of 2011

Atlanta, GA—Benedict shortstop Selwyn Young has been named SIAC Baseball East Division Player of the Week while teammate Eric Cordova has been named SIAC Baseball East Division Pitcher of the Week.

Young, a native of Los Angeles, CA, recorded eight hits, including a double and six RBIs, with a .444 batting average and a slugging percentage of .818 in five games. The 5-7 senior scored four runs along with six stolen bases and an on-base percentage of .500. Young, who had a hit in all five games, was also perfect in the field with a .1000 fielding percentage and helped lead the Tigers to 3-2 record with victories over Voorhees (9-0, 15-5) and Shaw (4-3).
 
Cordova, a native of Los Angeles, CA, pitched five shutout innings with seven strikeouts, no walks, and just one hit in the Tigers season opener against Voorhees. The 6-0 senior was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in one appearance this past week.
 
There were no players honored from the west division this week.
