Claflin’s Emory, Tuskegee’s Moody Lead SIAC Baseball Weekly Honors

Atlanta, GA— Tuskegee first baseman/outfielder Gene Stewart Moody has been named SIAC Baseball West Division Player of the Week after his strong performance this past week while Albany State short stop William Smalls has been named SIAC East Division Player of the Week. Claflin senior Breylon Emory was named SIAC Baseball East Division Pitcher of the Week after his impressive performance on the mound this past week while Miles junior Don Mack was named SIAC West Division Pitcher of the Week.

Moody, a native of Greenville, AL, went 7-for-12 from the plate, including a homerun and two doubles, with a .582 batting average and a slugging percentage of 1.000. The 6-0 freshman had four RBIs and scored three runs with a .615 on-base percentage. Defensively, Moody had a .950 fielding percentage while helping the Golden Tigers to a 2-1 series win over Claflin.
 
Smalls, a native of Decatur, GA, finished the week with six hits, including a homerun and three doubles, with a .352 batting average and a .705 slugging percentage. The 5-9 junior had eight RBIs and scored three runs. He helped lead the Golden Rams to a 4-1 record with a pair of victories against Edward Waters and a 2-1 series win over conference foe Stillman.
 
Emory was impressive on the mound for the Panthers pitching a complete game shutout against Tuskegee with 14 strikeouts. The North Augusta, SC native pushes his record to 4-1 for the season with a 2.67 ERA.
 
Mack, a native of Centreville, AL, pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts against Morehouse. Mack finished the week with a 2.57 ERA while pushing his record to 3-3 on the season.
