SIAC Appoints Harold Mitchell as Coordinator of Football Officials

Atlanta, GA— Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner Greg Moore recently announced the hiring of Harold Mitchell as the Coordinator of Football Officials.

“We are pleased to welcome Harold Mitchell to the SIAC.  Mr. Mitchell brings a wealth of experience and expertise which will add great value to our league,” stated Commissioner Moore.

Mitchell has been a college football official for over 35 years, working in Big Ten, Southeastern Conference (SEC), Mid-Continent (now the Gateway), College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). His resume includes several major Division I (FBS) bowl and championship games including the 1987 Rose Bowl, 1992 Orange Bowl, and the 1985, 1993 and 1996 Gator Bowls along with the 1992 and 1999 SEC Championship Games.

In 1997, Mitchell made history when he became the first African-American lead official in the Southeastern Conference.

Since 2007, Mitchell has served the Coordinator of Football Officials for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and his new appointment with the SIAC makes him one of only five NCAA coordinators to assign for multiple conferences.
