Augusta, GA-Paine College repeated as tournament champions of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Golf Classic held Tuesday afternoon at the Jones Creek Golf Course in Augusta, GA.
After finishing the first day with a nine stroke lead, the Lions used a strong finish to end the day with a score of 643, twenty-four strokes ahead of runner-up Morehouse College's score of 667, and 30 in front of third-place Benedict College.
Paine sophomore Carlos Solis was the Most Outstanding Golfer of the Classic as he finished in first place with a two round total of 150, fellow Lion freshman Jerrell Hubbard finished in second place with 155, and sophomore Victor Tapia rounded out the top three tournament golfers with 157 points.
All three Lions were named to the SIAC Golf Classic All-Tournament Team, and head coach Herman Belton was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Coach. Justin Bower of LeMoyne-Owen (159) and Benedict’s Chris Yoo (159) rounded out the top five golfers of the Classic.
