Volleyball Championship: Day Two Recap
BIRMINGHAM– Day two of the 2015 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) volleyball championship at the Birmingham Crossplex in Alabama wrapped upThursday evening with the semifinal matches.
MATCH 5
2W Tuskegee 3, 3W Stillman 1 (Stillman eliminated)
Co-Player of the Year Pamela Allen finished with a match-high 22 kills and hit .474 to help Tuskegee earn a 3-1 win over Stillman. Jsmiah Breda-Nixon added 19 kills ahead of Jacqueline Wilson who had 13. Morgan Scrivens posted a double-double with 55 assists and 20 digs while Zahria Radfor led all players in digs with 30. Sheila Dailey recorded 20 kills and Shun Lewis-Brooks tabbed 13 for Stillman. Kendra Ramos also finished with a double-double with 42 assists and 12 digs.
MATCH 6
4E Benedict 3, 4W Miles 0 (Miles eliminated)
Benedict’s Aaliyah Lawson registered nine kills and JaNae Sanders added 27 assists to top Miles 3-0. P’yuncka Kearse-Peep and Lawson led Benedict with 10 digs each.Eboni Jonhson tallied seven kills for Miles while Skyler Johnson posted a match-high 16 digs. Kayla Ford finished with 10 assists.
MATCH 7
1E Claflin 3, 3E Clark Atlanta 0
Claflin’s defense held Clark Atlanta to just 29 team kills in a 3-0 win over CAU. Jamie Dobson recorded 12 kills ahead of Bria Bronston who recorded 11. Sonia Rosales led all players in assists (32) and Jhi Piper-Murles finished with 11 digs. Sierra Scoggins led CAU with nine kills and Kiara Govan added 25 assists in the loss. Claflin will face Kentucky State at 10 a.m. on Friday.
MATCH 8
1W Kentucky State 3, 2E Albany State 0
Kentucky State topped Albany State 3-0 as its offense was powered by Kitrice Ploucha and Payton Richardson who tallied 10 kills a piece. Setter of the Year, Angelique Kyle recorded a match-high 34 assists. Justice Howard finished with seven kills for ASU and Tiffany Roesler added 16 assists. KSU will play Claflin on Friday at 10 a.m.
MATCH 9
2E Albany State 3, 2W Tuskegee 0 (Tuskegee eliminated)
Albany State stayed alive in the tournament with a 3-0 win over Tuskegee. Kristen Randolph led the charge with 12 kills ahead of Howard who added 10. Roesler finished with 32 assists and Kaliah Carter added 27 digs. Breda-Nixon posted 10 kills for Tuskegee and Scrivens posted 30 assists in the loss. Radford led Tuskegee with 19 digs.
MATCH 10
3E Clark Atlanta 3, 4E Benedict 0 (Benedict eliminated)
Cori Smith’s 15 kills helped Clark Atlanta to a 3-0 sweep over Benedict in an elimination match. Govan registered 25 assists and Dariyan Stallings led the defense with 13 digs. Saunders tallied 20 assists for Benedict whose offense managed to recorded only 23 kills.
MATCH 11
2E Albany State 3, 3E Clark Atlanta 0 (Clark Atlanta eliminated)
Kristen Randolph led Albany State with 16 kills to help the Golden Rams eliminated Clark Atlanta with a 3-0 win in the final match on Thursday. Roesler added 36 assists and Carter finished with 20 digs. Smith finished with 10 kills and Govan tallied 10 assists for Clark Atlanta. ASU will face the loser of the Kentucky State vs. Claflin match at 12 p.m. in an elimination match.
