BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 4 LeMoyne-Owen placed four players in double-figure scoring to take down No. 5 Fort Valley State 78-65 in an opening round game of the 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Men’s Basketball Tournament, Monday evening at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham, Ala.
Rashawn Brown and Justin Street each finished with 19 points for LeMoyne-Owen (14-14 overall) who will face No. 1 Benedict on Wednesday, March 2 in the quarterfinals. Larry McGaughey added 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds followed by Jerry Hampton who scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Fort Valley State (6-23) had a trio of players in double-figure scoring led by Dareial Franklin’s game-high 26 points. Ralph Wilson recorded 10 points and 13 rebounds while Jamaal Garror also added 10 points.
