BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 5 Stillman topped No. 4 Fort Valley State 70-52 in an opening round game at the 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women’s Basketball Tournament, Monday evening at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham, Ala.
Stillman (11-15 overall) was led in scoring by Joclyn Ramos who finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Schenia Battle added 12 points while teammate Victoria Douglas recorded nine points and nine rebounds.
FVSU (10-17) struggled from the field and shot just 21.2 percent during the game. Jayme Gilbert finished with a team-high 12 points. Shereba Montgomery tallied 10 points and grabbed six rebounds in the loss.
Stillman advances to Wednesday’s quarterfinal game between top-seeded Kentucky State at 5:30 p.m.
