SIAC Statement Concerning Lane vs. LeMoyne-Owen Incident
ATLANTA (January 17, 2017) – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) is currently investigating an altercation that took place on Saturday, Jan. 14 during the second half of the Lane/LeMoyne Owen men’s basketball game at Bruce Hall Gymnasium in Memphis, Tenn.
The game has been postponed with no intended make-up date at this juncture.
"Good sportsmanship as well as the health and safety of our student-athletes and fans are core values which must be observed and advanced during all athletic contests,” said SIAC Commissioner Greg Moore. “The incident which occurred Saturday evening represents a direct affront to these core values.
Such behavior will not be tolerated in our league under any circumstances. As a consequence, and at the conclusion of our internal investigation, all responsible parties in connection with this incident shall be subject to most severe sanctions authorized by conference rules and bylaws.”
