BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 1, 2018) – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) kicked off day two of the quarterfinals rounds for the 2018 SIAC Basketball Tournament.
 
Game 14 (Women): No. 2 LeMoyne-Owen 55, No. 3 Claflin 58

Ashley Fields led Claflin with a double-double as she posted 21 points and 10 rebounds lifting the Lady Panthers over the Lady Magicians, 58-55. Despite Claflin’s struggle scoring in the paint and from behind the arc, they took advantage of LeMoyne’s turnovers and capitalized by posting 16 of their points from the bench. Joy Okeke and Deja Dicken followed up for the Lady Panthers with their double-digit scoring. For the Lady Magicians, Dana Gettis posted 24 points which allowed LeMoyne-Owen to outscore Claflin in the paint, but wasn’t enough to finish the game. LeMoyne-Owen fell to 58-55 on the season as Claflin Lady Panthers advances to face Clark Atlanta in the semifinals on Friday, March 2 at 1:00 p.m. CST.
 
 
Game 15 (Men): No. 2 Lane 60, No. 3 Claflin 65

Jordan Jones led in scoring for the Panthers as he posted 18 points while shooting 58.3 percent from the field which allowed the Panthers to win 65-60 over the Lane Dragons. Throughout the game, Lane held their lead until the second half when they struggled shooting in the paint and behind the arc. Despite Kendarius Ash posting 24 points for the Dragons, the Panthers capitalized on the Dragons turnovers as they managed to score 19 points. Also, the Panthers bench played a major role in their success as they scored 30 points to the Dragons 13. The Dragons fall to 14-13 on the season as the Claflin Panthers advance to the semifinals as they face No. 1 Morehouse on Friday, March 2 at 3:15 p.m. CST.
 
 
Game 16 (Women): No. 2 Albany State 65, No. 3 Kentucky State 71

Senior, Brittani Rizzi led the Lady Thorobreds with 22 points in their overtime win over Albany State, 71-65. In the first half, the Lady Thorobreds struggled with shooting from the field and behind the arc, but had a perfect game from the free-throw line. As the game progressed, Kentucky State’s shooting increased and Brooke Wallace, the second leading scorer and leading rebounder, saved the play to tie the game and send it into overtime. For the Lady Golden Rams, Elesha Foster was the leading scorer with 16 points which allowed them to lead for most of the game, but allowing the Lady Thorobreds second chance points is what costed them the game. Albany State Lady Golden Rams fell to 17-12 on the season while the Kentucky State Lady Thorobreds advance to the semifinals as they will face No. 1 Central State on Friday, March 2 at 5:30 p.m. CST.


Game 17 (Men): No. 2 Clark Atlanta 57, No. 6 Albany State 55

Shelvick Henry led in scoring for the Panthers as he posted 15 points in a close win over Albany State, 57-55. Throughout the game, both teams shot fairly low from the field and from the 3-point line which caused a low-scoring game. In spite of, Clark Atlanta managed to have three leaders scoring in double-digits as senior, Akil Douglas finished with a double-double that consisted of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Head coach, Darrell Walker, emphasized rebounding for the Panthers as they struggled and gave up 16 offensive rebounds. Albany State held their lead for most of the game until the second half when turnovers costed them the game. Jared Harrington led the Golden Rams with 14 points, but was not enough to outlast the Panthers. Albany State falls to 8-20 on the season as Clark Atlanta advances to the semifinals where they will face No. 4 Benedict College on Friday, March 2 at 7:45 p.m. CST.
