Track and Field Championship Set for City of Albany

ATLANTA (April 19, 2018) – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced on Monday that its track and field championship will be held on April 20-22 at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany, Ga.
 
All field events will take place on the campus of Albany State University while Hugh Mills Stadium will host all running events.
 
Combined events kickoff the championship at 8 a.m. on April 20th beginning with the decathlon followed by the heptathlon at 8:30 a.m. Field events will begin at 1 p.m. and the opening ceremony is slated for 3 p.m. Track events are scheduled to start at 5 p.m. concluding with the men’s 10,000-meter run at 8 p.m.
 
Eleven women’s teams will compete in the upcoming championship including Albany State, Benedict, Claflin, Clark Atlanta, Central State, Fort Valley State, Kentucky State, Lane, Miles, Paine, and Tuskegee. Benedict won the 2017 SIAC Women’s Track & Field Championship.
 
Last year for women, Benedict finished with 216 points to win the title ahead of Albany State (187), Clark Atlanta (179.5), Claflin (86), Paine (38), Miles (37), Kentucky State (30), Tuskegee (19), Fort Valley State (12), Central State (11.5), and Lane (1).

 Albany State, Benedict, Claflin, Central State, Fort Valley State, Kentucky State, Lane, Paine, Morehouse, and Tuskegee will represent the men’s field. Albany State, the reigning conference champs, won the 2017 SIAC Men’s Track & Field title last year in Albany, Ga.
 
Last year, the Golden Rams finished with 248 points to secure the title ahead of Benedict who was second with 220.5 points. Morehouse (107) finished third followed by Central State (59), Claflin (49), Paine (43), Kentucky State (40.5), Tuskegee (23), Lane (16), and Fort Valley State (6).
