Albany State Softball Captures Championship Title and Heads to Regionals
ALBANY, Ga (May 5, 2018) – The Albany State Lady Golden Rams captured the 2018 SIAC Softball Championship title after their undefeated run throughout regular season and the tournament. Albany State defeated Kentucky State,4-3, on Saturday afternoon at Gordon Park.
The Lady Golden Rams secured their championship title after capitalizing on their one-run advantage. Albany State won four straight games to lead the school to their first championship title since 2013.
With the championship, Albany State (29-22), receives the SIAC automatic berth into the 2018 NCAA Division II Softball Regionals scheduled for May 10-12. Pairings for the tournament will be announced via the NCAA.com website on Monday.
Kentucky State finished the season with a 21-21 record this season.
Albany State’s McGowan, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, was the winning pitcher after entering the game in relief with bases loaded and no outs in the fourth inning. Albany State secured all their runs in the second inning as Davis and Williams made phenomenal plays to allow the Lady Golden Rams to take and hold their lead.
Kentucky State’s Thome, Bocanegra, and Ramos all scored for the Lady Thorobreds as Flores pitched all six innings with one strikeout.
