Maroon Tigers Celebrate Their 26th Victory During 2023 Cricket SIAC Men’s Cross Country Championship

MACON, GA – In an exhilarating display of athletic prowess and strategic brilliance, the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers reigned victorious during the 2023 Cricket SIAC Men's Cross Country Championship! This prestigious event unfolded at the Georgia Premier Cross Country Course situated within the esteemed grounds of Middle Georgia State University, where the Tigers showcased their dominance during the grueling 8K meet, outperforming 13 formidable SIAC teams.

Morehouse demonstrated exceptional team depth and individual brilliance, placing four runners among the top 10 in a highly competitive field of 93 athletes. Their outstanding performance culminated in a triumphant finish with 24 points, a testament to their unparalleled endurance and relentless spirit. Sophomore sensation Brian Kemei led the charge, clinching the first slot with a stunning time of 25:35.30.

Benedict College displayed commendable skill and determination, securing the second spot with 85 points, with Nelson Kipkemboi leading the team at 28:43.65. Central State rounded out the top three with a solid 103 points. The final standings saw Spring Hill (144), Tuskegee (175), Edward Waters (204), Clark Atlanta (205), Allen (219), Fort Valley State (224), Kentucky State (224), Savannah State (245), Lane (259), LeMoyne-Owen (302), and Miles (361) in the succeeding positions.

In a celebration of coaching excellence, Morehouse's Willie Hill deservedly earned the 2023 SIAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year award, a testament to his leadership and inspirational guidance. Bringing in another title for the Maroon Tigers, Brian Kemei was named 2023 SIAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year, a fitting accolade for his exceptional performance.

The Elite 14 Award, now in its second year, was bestowed upon Mykayle Carter of Miles College, recognizing his unparalleled commitment to academic excellence and outstanding athletic performance at the SIAC championship level.
