Clark Atlanta's
Chris Martin was named
Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while Spring Hill's
Walter Peggs Jr. took home the title of
Men's Basketball Newcomer of the Week. Also named was Clark Atlanta's
Corriana Evans as
Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Albany State's
Keyra Peterson concluded the lineup, taking home the title of
Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Week.
MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Chris Martin, Clark Atlanta University
Guard | Graduate | Charlotte, North Carolina
Martin, a graduate student and Charlotte native, delivered an outstanding performance in Clark Atlanta University's regular season opener, leading his team to a 74-57 victory over West Florida. Martin scored a career-high 41 points in this remarkable game, showcasing his exceptional skills on the court. Demonstrating unprecedented accuracy and versatility on the court, he achieved an impressive 50% shooting rate from the field, going 8-of-16. Equally impressive was his performance from the three-point line, where he maintained the same 50% success rate, sinking four of his eight attempts. However, Martin truly shone at the free throw line, converting 21 of his 22 attempts, an astounding 95% success rate. This standout game highlights Martin's scoring prowess and his ability to consistently deliver under pressure, marking him as a key player for Clark Atlanta University's basketball team.
MEN'S BASKETBALL NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK - Walter Peggs Jr., Spring Hill College

Peggs, a junior guard at Spring Hill College, has been instrumental in propelling the Badgers to a solid 2-2 start this season, showcasing remarkable skill against challenging regional rivals. Hailing from Jackson, Tennessee, Peggs has quickly established himself as a key player since his transfer. His exceptional performance was highlighted in a thrilling 65-63 overtime victory against SSC member Rollins on November 11, where he clinched the game with a critical three-pointer from the corner. Demonstrating his scoring prowess, Peggs led with 21 points in Spring Hill's 78-61 win over GSC member West Florida in their home opener on November 18, impressively hitting 4 out of 7 attempts from the three-point line. Statistically, Peggs stands out in the SIAC, averaging 3.5 three-pointers per game, the second-highest in the league. Additionally, he ranks fifth in scoring and free throw accuracy with a .875 percentage and sixth in three-point shooting accuracy at .378. Peggs' consistent performance, particularly from beyond the arc, underscores his vital role in the team's offense and positions him as a player to watch this season.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Corriana Evans, Clark Atlanta University

Senior forward Corriana Evans continues to showcase her remarkable skills on the court! In the Panthers' season opener, Evans put up an impressive 13 points, leading to a victory over Florida Tech. She followed this stellar performance with a dazzling 21 points in the win against Saint Leo University, marking her 10th consecutive game scoring in double figures, a streak that traces back to the previous season. Evans' consistent high-scoring and on-court prowess underline her status as a key player for Clark Atlanta University, making her one to watch this season.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK - Keyra Peterson, Albany State University

Peterson, a sophomore guard for Albany State University and an Atlanta, Georgia native, delivered two exceptional performances in the 2023 SIAC/GSC Challenge. Facing formidable opponents like West Georgia and West Alabama, Peterson emerged as a standout player for the Golden Rams. Despite the team's overall challenges, Peterson's brilliance was undeniable. In the clash against West Georgia, she notched an impressive double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, showcasing her versatility and tenacity on the court. Her momentum continued against West Alabama, where she dominated on the court with 20 points and added five rebounds. Peterson's remarkable skill set and on-court presence make her a player to watch this season as she continues to elevate her game and make significant contributions to the Golden Rams.
