SIAC Announces Men's & Women's Basketball Weekly Honors 11.28

ATLANTA, GA – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced weekly honors for men's and women's basketball on Tuesday, November 28. Spring Hill's Walter Peggs Jr. was named Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while Kentucky State's Josiah Mitchell took home the title of Men's Basketball Newcomer of the Week. Fort Valley State's Shekinah Rachel was named Women's Basketball Player of the Week, and Spring Hill's Marta Duda concluded the lineup, receiving the honor of Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Week.

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Walter Peggs Jr., Spring Hill College
#35 | Guard | Junior | Jackson, Tennessee
Peggs, a junior guard from Jackson, Tennessee, recently delivered an outstanding performance for the Spring Hill College Badgers, leading them to a 99-89 victory over No. 19 Auburn Montgomery. Peggs showcased his exceptional skills during this matchup, hitting 4 out of 8 attempts from beyond the arc. His proficiency at the free-throw line was equally impressive, with a near-perfect 10 out of 11. In addition to this game, Peggs continued his high-scoring trend in an intense overtime clash with Albany State, where he led with 29 points. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Shekinah Rachel, Fort Valley State University

Rachel, a senior from Miami, Florida, showcased a remarkable performance as a forward for the Fort Valley State Wildcats. In the narrow loss to Georgia College (55-52), Rachel brought in 19 points, 16 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block, demonstrating her all-around skillset. In the SIAC opener against Tuskegee University, Rachel's outstanding play was crucial for the Wildcats' 60-55 victory, where she tallied 21 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, a block, and three steals. She produced a third of her output in the final five minutes, scoring seven points, grabbing five rebounds, and stealing two passes, including the final one on the last Tuskegee possession, taking the length of the court to seal the victory.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK - Marta Duda, Spring Hill College

Marta Duda, a redshirt junior from Torun, Poland, has showcased her exceptional skills on the court as a forward for the Spring Hill College Badgers. In a recent contest against West Florida, Duda led the Badgers with an impressive performance, scoring 11 points and securing eight rebounds. Following this, Duda continued her impressive form in a challenging game against Albany State University. During this matchup, she led her team to a 76-67 victory in overtime and achieved a remarkable double-double. Her standout performance included 18 points and ten rebounds, underlining her significant role in the team's success and her prowess as a key player for the Badgers.
