SIAC Women’s Volleyball Weekly Honors: Oct. 15

ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its SIAC Women’s Volleyball Players of the Week on Tuesday, Oct. 15, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in matches played last week. Maliyah Spencer (Allen), Myra Lopez (Allen), Camille McDermott (Spring Hill) and Dakotah Holmes (Fort Valley State) were recognized.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – MALIYAH SPENCER, ALLEN UNIVERSITY
Outside Hitter | Junior | Surprise, Ariz.
Across four matches this past week, Maliyah Spencer led Allen with 60 kills, on an average of 15 kills per match. Twice against SIAC competition, Spencer surpassed 20 kills with performances of 21 kills in a four-set victory against Tuskegee and a career-best 23 kills in a five-set win over Miles College.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – MYRA LOPEZ, ALLEN UNIVERSITY
Defensive Specialist/Libero | Sophomore | Mesa, Ariz.
In all four matches last week, Myra Lopez reached double-digit kills to add to her SIAC-leading total of 251 digs this season. Lopez's week was highlighted by recording 36 digs, her second-most in a single match in her career, in a five-set victory against Miles College in the SIAC West Crossover in Memphis, Tenn. In addition to her defensive efforts against the Golden Bears, Lopez tallied 15 digs against NCAA Division I foe South Carolina State. She also recorded 11 digs against Tuskegee and 10 digs against Spring Hill.

SETTER OF THE WEEK – CAMILLE MCDERMOTT, SPRING HILL COLLEGE
Setter | Freshman | Yankton, S.D.

McDermott helped the Badgers to three more sweeps in conference play at the SIAC Crossover in Memphis. Across three matches, she recorded 100 assists, including 38 against Allen. She currently leads the conference with 337 assists on the season.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – DAKOTAH HOLMES, FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY
Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist | Freshman | Hampton, Ga.
Holmes played a key part of FVSU's 4-0 week and a sweep of 3-0 matches at the SIAC West Crossover. Over 12 sets, she totaled 36 kills, hit .292, 1 asst, 5 aces, 30 digs and 3 total blocks. Holmes had at least 6 kills in every match, with 11 kills, 9 digs, 2 aces and an assist against Lane. She also had 13 kills, 7 digs and a block against Tuskegee. Against Wesleyan and LeMoyne-Owen, Holmes had a combined 12 kills, 3 aces, 14 digs and 2 blocks.
