Albany State will face Fort Valley State in A. J. McClung Memorial Stadium this week in a must-win game for both teams. Like last season, the storied rivalry at the Fountain City Classic will determine who plays in the conference championship.

Albany State recorded a season-high four turnovers in last week's 38-26 loss to Savannah State. The Golden Rams led briefly after scoring on their opening drive but quickly gave up the lead and never fully recovered.

Fort Valley State powered past Benedict in a 44-20 victory at home last week. The Wildcats jumped to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and piled on 21 additional points in the second. The defense held Benedict to 212 yards of total offense with negative 1 yard rushing. Tuskegee's win streak came to a halt on the road last week at Clark Atlanta. The Golden Tigers were outscored 36-28 after trailing the majority of the game due partially to missed opportunities and untimely penalties. Tuskegee had a chance to tie the game in the team's final possession, but the Panther defense forced an interception to end the game.

Miles secured the No. 1 seed last week when the team steamrolled Morehouse, 37-3, in its seventh-straight victory of the season. The Golden Bears defense gave up a field goal after a turnover in their own territory, and it was the only points the squad allowed all game. The Maroon Tigers were held to negative 57 yards rushing and 110 yards of total offense. Defensive back Lashon Young had four tackles, two pass breakups and a 52-yard pick-six, earning him SIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
