ATLANTA —
Justin Mordecai, Director of Athletic Communications at
Clark Atlanta University, has been named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators 30 Under 30 Class, a prestigious recognition of emerging athletics communications professionals in strategic, creative and digital spaces.
“This award holds great significance to me and marks a pivotal moment in my professional journey,” said Mordecai. “Last year, I set a goal to earn this honor, and seeing it come to fruition feels surreal. I wouldn’t be here without the support of my fellow athletic administrators at Clark Atlanta, the institutions that believed in me, and, most importantly, my incredible support system of college sports communicators. I would also be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge and give praise to the many SID mentors who have guided and supported me tremendously along the way.”
Mordecai, appointed to his current role at Clark Atlanta University in January 2023, has more than five years of experience in athletic communications.
As the primary communications contact for the Panthers’ 10 NCAA Division II sports, he oversees the creation and distribution of press releases, manages all aspects of the department’s stats team and develops strategic communications plans to highlight the achievements of CAU Athletics.
Mordecai also trains and supervises a team of student interns who assist with daily tasks and game day operations.
Before his role at Clark Atlanta, Mordecai served as the director of strategic communications at Alabama State, where he led communications efforts for 13 Division I sports and worked as the primary Formteco board operator. His career also includes stops at Newberry College, Howard University and the University of West Georgia, where he earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
Mordecai got his start in athletic communications while an undergraduate student, working for two seasons with West Georgia’s football and basketball programs.
His volunteer experience includes 2021 Celebration Bowl operations and serving as a 2021 Travel, Events and Management in Sports ambassador. Additionally, Mordecai worked with the 2021 PGA Tour merchandise shop at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
The CSC 30 Under 30, now in its third year, honors members who have demonstrated professional achievements, contributions to athletic departments or conference offices and service to CSC.
This year’s class, selected from a record 176 nominations, includes 10 members from NCAA Division I, six Division II members, 10 Division III members, two NAIA members, one member from a Canadian institution, and one two-year college member.
Selections were made by a voting committee that included the CSC Executive Board of Directors, advisory council, staff, committee leaders and past award winners.
