Miles' Young earns BOXTOROW HBCU All-America honors

FAIRFIELD, Ala. — On a day where he was named All-Region, Miles safety Lashon Young picked up his first All-America honor.

Young, a sophomore from Sweet Water, Ala., was named to the BOXTOROW HBCU All-America team on Thursday. The team, which has been presented since 2007, is selected based on voting by media that covers HBCU football and includes student-athletes from all levels of HBCU football.

This is Young's first selection to the team after a stellar 2024 campaign that saw him nab SIAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-SIAC first team honors. He currently leads NCAA Division II in interceptions with eight. He also has 14 total passes defended, which is tied for 12th in the nation. He finished the season with 53 tackles (42 solo), 4.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and an interception that was returned for a touchdown. He also had two games with two interceptions.

This is the first time a Golden Bear has been selected to the BOXTOROW HBCU All-America team since former linebacker Austin Stephens made the team in 2018.

Three additional Golden Bears were Honorable Mention selections: offensive linemen Christian Twymon and Jason Stovall, and defensive lineman Roc Dowdell.
