ATLANTA – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) announced weekly honors for baseball Tuesday, Feb. 20. Miles’ Brandon Leroy was named Baseball Player of the Week, and Benedict’s Kent Johnson took home the title of Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Brandon Leroy, Miles College

Leroy swung a big bat for the Golden Bears, who went 3-1 on the week. In four games, the junior catcher went 6-for-16 (.375) with 2 home runs ,10 RBI and seven runs scored. His grand slam in the opening game of a sweep over Clark Atlanta broke the game open and Miles won 13-5. The next day, his RBI single opened the scoring, then he homered again in the front end of a double header as Miles won 14-7. On the season, against mostly Gulf South Conference competition, Leroy is slashing .457/.537/.714 with three doubles, two home runs and 12 runs batted in.
BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Kent Johnson, Benedict College

In his first appearance on the mound, Kent Johnson came on in relief Sunday in the third game of the weekend series rivaling Lane. Johnson pitched five innings and allowed just one hit as the Tigers rallied to defeat the Dragons for their first win of the season. The junior pitcher allowed one hit over five innings, struck out three, did not allow a run and walked five to earn the win.
