SIAC announces men's & women's basketball weekly honors 02.27

ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced weekly honors for men's and women's basketball on Tuesday, Feb. 27. In this celebration of on-court successes, Kentucky State’s Brandon Hill was named Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while Miles’ Alvin Miles took home the title of Men's Basketball Newcomer of the Week. Allen’s Talayah Boxley was named Women's Basketball Player of the Week, and Savannah State’s Mya Byrd took home the title of Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Week.

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Brandon Hill, Kentucky State University
#3 | Guard | Senior | Shorewood, IL
Hill tallied 11 points in his last two outings against non-conference opponent Charleston. The senior guard went 8-of-8 at the charity stripe and scored 21 points in the Thorobred’s victory over Spring Hill Saturday.
 
MEN'S BASKETBALL NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK - Alvin Miles, Miles College
#3 | Guard | Senior | Memphis, TN
Miles was the leading scorer for the Golden Bears in their two victories last week, averaging 21 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists. In the overtime win over Allen, Miles scored a season-high 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds. His 3-pointer to start overtime gave the Golden Bears the lead for good as they wrapped up the Western Division title. In his hometown, the senior guard scored 20 points and dished seven assists, significantly contributing to the LeMoyne-Owen take down.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Talayah Boxley, Allen University
#4 | Forward | Sophomore | Charleston, WV
Boxley averaged 12.3 PPG and 8.6 rebounds per contest over the past week, in three games. Most recently, she finished with a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds in Saturday's win over Clark Atlanta.
