ATLANTA – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced weekly honors for men's and women's track and field on Tuesday, March 26. Albany State's Jonathan Kelly was named Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Benedict's Shun Taylor was named Men's Field Athlete of the Week. Zenay Rhaney and Mykhayla Carroll brought home additional honors for Albany State as Women's Track Athlete of the Week and Women's Field Athlete of the Week, respectively.
MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Jonathan Kelly, Albany State University
Junior | Nashville, TN
Jonathan Kelly displayed remarkable speed and endurance at the 2024 Georgia Southern Relays, earning the first place in the 400m dash with an impressive time of 49.57 seconds. He continued his strong performance by securing second place in the 800m run with a time of 1:57.55, marking him as a versatile athlete with top finishes in both sprints and middle-distance events.
MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Shun Taylor, Benedict College
R-Sophomore | Decatur, GA
Shun Taylor finished second in the long jump with a jump of 6.97 meters (22 feet, 10 ½ inches). That mark ranks second in the SIAC and 22nd in Division II. Taylor also had another impressive jump with a triple jump mark of 14.33 meters (47 feet, ¼ inch), to finish eighth. That mark ranks second in the SIAC and 14th in Division II.
WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Zenay Rhaney, Albany State University
Junior | LaGrange, GA
Zenay Rhaney showcased her athletic prowess at the 2024 Georgia Southern Relays, clinching first place in the 400m with a swift 1:00.97 finish. Rhaney secured third place in both the 800m and the 1500m events, with times of 2:24.80 and 5:17.50, respectively, demonstrating her versatility and competitiveness across middle-distance events.
WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Mykhayla Carroll, Albany State University
Senior | Loganville, GA
Mykhayla Carroll dominated the field events at the 2024 Georgia Southern Relays, throwing to first place in the discus (36.96m) and shot put (11.37m). She placed second in the hammer throw (43.03m).
