Elite performances define 2024 Cricket SIAC Track and Field Championship

ATLANTA — The 2024 Cricket SIAC Men's and Women's Track and Field Championship saw elite performances Thursday as SIAC student-athletes competed in preliminary and final events at Morehouse's Edwin C. Moses track.

MEN'S DECATHLON (OVERALL)
Savannah State's Dominique Bailey delivered standout performances in the men's decathlon 400m (52.43) and high jump (1.74m), scoring 3,169 points. Albany State's Micah Forsythe claimed second place with 3,044 points, and Fort Valley State's Larry Turner captured third with 2,889 points.

WOMEN'S HEPTATHLON (OVERALL)
Benedict's Santonia Freeman clinched first place in the women's heptathlon with 2,601 points. Freeman's performance in the shot put (7.81m) and the 200m dash (25.81) propelled her to the top of the leaderboard.

Albany State juniors Kaleah Heckley and Julianna Kern secured second and third place, respectively, with Kern taking top honors in the 100m hurdles.
 
WOMEN'S HAMMER THROW
Albany State sophomore Mykhayla Carroll placed first in the women's hammer throw (49.39m), earning 10 points for the Golden Rams.

Fort Valley State's Nadejah Batts threw for 41.92m, clinching second place, while senior Minyia Miller landed third place (41.91m).

WOMEN'S LONG JUMP
Allen's Measha Jones clinched first place in the women's long jump, recording 5.79m on her fifth attempt, while a significant margin placed Savannah State's Da'Aliyah Johnson in second place following her fourth attempt (5.57m). Fort Valley State's Aquila Kerr clinched the third place, covering 5.56m on her sixth attempt.

MEN'S HAMMER THROW
Benedict's Caleb Vance claimed the top spot in the men's hammer throw, recording 50.66m on his sixth attempt, while junior Chase Ransom recorded 46.84m for second place. Spring Hill's Ethan Elliott rounded out the top three on his sixth attempt (46.61m).

MEN'S LONG JUMP
Benedict College senior Rajuan Ricketts soared past the competition, recording 7.36m on his third attempt, to clinch first place in the men's long jump. Fort Valley State's Bashan Wesley followed closely at 7.27m for second place, and Benedict's Shun Taylor clinched third with a 7.27m jump.

MEN'S 400m HURDLES
Tuskegee University freshman Shawn Jarrett II took first place in the men's 400m hurdles, clocking an impressive 54.24 in the third heat. Morehouse College freshman Jeremiah Alibey followed closely, earning second place at 54.60 in the second heat. Albany State senior Jordan Smith rounded out the top three at 54.79 in the first heat.

WOMEN'S 400m HURDLES
Albany State's Nathalia Rowe clinched first place after a 1:04.16 finish in the first heat, while Benedict's Megan Thompson trailed closely for second place at 1:04.53. Kentucky State's Jaylynne Williams took third after a compelling 1:05.42 finish.

MEN'S 200m DASH
Albany State sophomore Kibren Moore placed first in the event, recording a 20.93 finish. Fort Valley State's Cornelius Cooks II clocked in at 21.15, securing second place, and Benedict's Javel Best rounded out the top three at 21.35.

WOMEN'S 200m DASH
Fort Valley State's D'liyah Austell turned heads in the women's 200m dash (24.46), while Miles College junior Kiersten Clark recorded 24.55 for second place. Clark Atlanta's Anniyah Williams closed the fourth heat at 24.64, securing third place.

MEN'S 800m RUN
Morehouse freshman Owynn Brown secured first place in the men's 800m run (1:53.63). Brown led in heat three and recorded a 54.25 split at 400m. Savannah State's Jadon Rountree cleared the finish line at 1:56.48 for second place, and Benedict's Sadiki Marsh recorded a 1:57.33 finish for third place.

WOMEN'S 800m RUN
Albany State's Zenay Rhaney claimed first place in the women's 800m run (2:23.89), while Benedict's Torriann Noad closed the third heat at 2:25.61 for second place. Tuskegee freshman Anaya Martin secured third place at 2:25.88 in the fourth heat.

MEN'S 4X100m RELAY
Albany State's men's 4x100m relay team led preliminary heats Thursday. The team, composed of Jayvon Hutchinson, Kibren Moore, Jordan Smith and Ed Gilbert, recorded a 39.74 finish.

The event saw Fort Valley State and Central State securing second and third place, respectively, with close finishing times of 41.05 and 40.76.

WOMEN'S 4X100m RELAY
Albany State University's women's 4x100m relay team showcased impressive form in the event's second heat. The Golden Ram's team, composed of Dasia Gilyard, Cadence Cray, Imani Jones and Jeniya Lawrence, took first place with a 46.60 finish.

Junri Cummings, Kamora Taylor, Kaylin Robinson and Kiersten Clark recorded a 47.31 finish for the Miles College Golden Bears.

Central State's Michael Addison, Kapri Dawkins, Tamara Myers and Skye Livingston rounded out the top three spots at 47.31.

MEN'S 10,000m RUN
Morehouse College sophomore Brian Kemei clinched first in men's 10,000m (31:27.14). Benedict's Nelson Kipkemboi took second place with a 34:59.75 finish, and Morehouse's Ronny Kiprono recorded 35:36.86 to secure third place.

WOMEN'S 10000m RUN
Edward Waters' Angela Bitok dominated in the women's 10,000m. The freshman recorded a 42:43.85 finish to secure first place. Clark Atlanta sophomore Aliyah Jackson finished the event at 44:44.85 for the second-place seat, while Central State's Mariah Huston recorded 45:19.78 for third place.
