Benedict men's track and field sets records at Gamecock Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's track and field team competed in the Gamecock Invitational on Saturday at Cregger Track and had some outstanding performances.

Rajaun Ricketts won the triple jump event with a jump of 14.62 meters (47 feet, 11 ¾ inches).

Javel Best ran a personal-record time of 21.27 in the 200-meter dash, finishing sixth overall. That time ranks as the 20th-fastest in Division II and the third-fastest in the SIAC.

Shun Taylor had a season-best jump of 7.05 meters (23 feet, 1 ¾ inches) in the long jump to finish second overall and was the top collegiate finisher.

Sadiki Marsh finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.10.

Andy Ferguson had a personal record in the javelin, with a throw of 42.88 meters (140 feet, 8 inches), to finish ninth. Frank Hyland Jr. had a throw of 45.07 meters (147 feet, 10 inches), to finish seventh.

Kevin Francis finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 54.84 and finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.71.

Benedict's 4x100-meter relay team of Best, Matthew PaulMakel Bridges and Romel Russell finished fourth with a season-best time of 41.23, the 28th-fastest time in Division II. The 4x400-meter relay team of Jesaiah JonesQuincy Harris, Paul and Best finished second with a time of 3:12.31.

Chase Ransom had a season-best mark of 13.48 meters (44 feet, 2 ¾ inches) in the shot put, finishing seventh. He finished sixth in the hammer throw with a  throw of 45.45 meters (149 feet, 1 inch).

Caleb Vance had a personal record of 45.46 meters (149 feet, 2 inches) in the discus, finishing fifth. Vance also finished in the hammer throw with a throw of 46.98 meters (154 feet, 2 inches).

Morris Walker also had a personal record in the discus, throwing 42.79 meters (140 feet, 5 inches), finishing eighth.

Nelson Kipkemboi finished sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:36.65.

Benedict will compete in the Electric City Invite in Anderson, S.C., next weekend.
