SIAC announces softball weekly honors 04.09

ATLANTA – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced weekly honors for softball Tuesday, April 9. Fort Valley State’s Leah Leonard was named Softball Player of the Week, and Lane's Jersey Cabana was named Softball Pitcher of the Week.

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Leah Leonard, Fort Valley State University

Leonard excelled over the weekend, hitting 8 for 11, scoring four runs, and driving in seven runs across three games. She hit a home run, drew a walk, and stole three bases. Leonard opened the series going 2 for 3 with two RBIs, a walk, and two stolen bases. In the second game, she was 3 for 4 with two runs scored, three RBIs, and a stolen base. She concluded the weekend going 3 for 4 again in the third game, adding two more runs, two RBIs, and a solo home run.

SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Jersey Cabana, Lane College
#56 | Pitcher | Sophomore | San Dimas, CA
Cabana went 2-1 on the week, throwing three complete games including two against Tuskegee. She allowed just one earned run in 22.0 innings pitched overall with 27 strikeouts and only two walks. In her two conference appearances, she pitched 14.0 innings against the Golden Tigers, allowing no earned runs and striking out 15 batters. Her lone loss came to Tuskegee, 1-0 with the Tigers scoring an unearned run in the victory.
