SIAC Women’s Basketball Preview - Jan. 30

ATLANTA — The SIAC women’s basketball schedule features a slate of conference and non-conference games in the next week. Here's a list of the matchups and where to watch the games.

CLARK ATLANTA
at Miles – No stream available
Monday, Feb. 3, at 6:30 p.m. ET

Clark Atlanta (15-5, 9-3 SIAC) will travel to Miles (12-4, 9-3 SIAC) on Monday. When the two teams met in Atlanta in early January, the Lady Panthers won 69-61.

Clark Atlanta remains atop the east division standings after executing dominant wins at home against Albany State on Saturday and Fort Valley State on Monday.

Sophomore guard/forward Atreonia Garner paced the Lady Panthers with 33 points across the two contests. Garner led all scorers with 20 points against Albany State and added 13 against Fort Valley State, helping CAU to its 15th win of the season.

EDWARD WATERS
at Savannah State – SIAC Network
Saturday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. ET

Edward Waters (11-6, 7-5 SIAC) will travel to Savannah State (9-8, 5-6 SIAC) on Saturday in the teams’ first meeting this season. 

Last week, Edward Waters snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday with a 65-57 road victory over Benedict, followed by an 80-70 win at Allen on Monday. The wins elevated EWU to the second spot in the east division, jumping over Allen and Benedict.

Junior point guard Mia Morel led Edward Waters’ scoring efforts with 30 points across the two contests. Morel’s efforts, highlighted by a 26-point delivery at Allen, earned her SIAC Newcomer of the Week honors.

ALLEN
vs. Benedict – SIAC Network
Saturday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. ET

vs. Savannah State – SIAC Network
Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 6 p.m. ET

Allen (11-6, 6-4 SIAC) will host Benedict (7-11, 5-7 SIAC) on Saturday and Savannah State (9-8, 5-6 SIAC) on Tuesday in John Hurst Adams Gymnasium. 

Allen fell to third in the east division after an 80-70 loss to Edward Waters on Monday, marking its first defeat after three straight victories. Senior guard Taliah Wesley led the Lady Yellow Jackets with 19 points in the contest.

SAVANNAH STATE

Savannah State (9-8, 5-6 SIAC) will welcome Edward Waters (11-6, 7-5 SIAC) to Tiger Arena on Saturday, and the team will travel north to face Allen (11-6, 6-4 SIAC) on Tuesday.

Savannah State improved to fourth in the east division after winning 77-69 on the road against Benedict. Junior forward ??K'lya Hankerson led all scorers with 33 points in the victory, helping SSU extend its win streak to three.

BENEDICT
at Allen – SIAC Network
Saturday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. ET

Benedict (7-11, 5-7 SIAC) will face neighboring Allen (11-6, 6-4 SIAC) on Saturday in the teams’ first meeting this season. 

Benedict suffered three losses last week, beginning on Saturday with a 65-57 loss to Edward Waters. The team then fell to Savannah State, 77-69, on Monday and CIAA opponent Claflin, 89-75, on Wednesday. The two SIAC losses pushed Benedict down to the fifth spot in the east division.

Sophomore guard Alaysia Nash delivered the best single-game performance across the Benedict squad, tallying 23 points against Savannah State.

ALBANY STATE
vs. Fort Valley State – SIAC Network

Albany State (7-11, 4-8 SIAC) will welcome rival Fort Valley State (6-12, 3-9 SIAC) to the HPER Complex on Saturday for basketball Homecoming. The Lady Golden Rams will return to action on Thursday at Middle Georgia State (NAIA).

Last week, Albany State suffered its fourth-straight loss on the road, falling 64-49 to Clark Atlanta on Saturday. Junior guard Kayla Herrera led the team’s efforts with 12 points in the contest.

FORT VALLEY STATE

Fort Valley State (6-12, 3-9 SIAC) will conclude its four-game road swing on Saturday at Albany State (7-11, 4-8 SIAC). The Wildcats will return home to host Middle Georgia State (NAIA).

Fort Valley State remains at the bottom of the east division after a four-game losing streak. The 81-46 loss to Clark Atlanta last week was the Wildcats largest margin of defeat this season. Despite the loss, sophomore guard Aaniyah Allen led all scorers with 17 points in the game.

Miles (12-4, 9-3 SIAC) will host Lane (12-6, 8-4 SIAC) in Knox-Windham Gymnasium on Saturday. The Lady Golden Bears will also host Clark Atlanta (15-5, 9-3 SIAC) on Monday, hoping to reverse the fortunes of their last meeting, a 69-61 road loss on Jan. 2.

Last week, Miles lost 61-42 to Tuskegee on Saturday and rebounded against Spring Hill in a 68-51 victory at home. Despite the loss, the Lady Golden Bears remain the highest seed in the west division.

Senior guard/forward Feliah Greer and senior guard Iemyiah Harris each had 19 points across the two games, helping the Lady Golden Bears to their 12th win of the season.

Lane (12-6, 8-4 SIAC) will travel to Miles (12-4, 9-3 SIAC) on Saturday for the teams’ first meeting this season. The Dragons will then face Talladega (NAIA) on the road the following day.

Last week, Lane split two conference games at home, winning 63-46 against Spring Hill and losing 63-48 to Tuskegee on Monday, falling to third place in the west division. Senior point guard Taylor Lattimore led Lane’s scoring, totaling 25 points across both games.

TUSKEGEE

Tuskegee (11-8, 8-4 SIAC), currently on a six-game win streak, will travel to Spring Hill (6-13, 5-7 SIAC) on Saturday in the teams’ first meeting this season. 

Tuskegee rose to second in the west division after picking up two conference victories on the road. The Golden Tigers defeated Miles 61-42 on Saturday and Lane 63-48 on Monday. Graduate center Jasmine Manuel led the Lady Golden Tigers in scoring, tallying 21 points across the two contests, while Brittney Bolin added 20 to the week.

CENTRAL STATE
at Kentucky State – SIAC Network
Saturday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. ET

Central State (9-9, 7-5 SIAC), on a two-game win streak, will travel to Kentucky State (6-12, 5-7 SIAC) on Saturday.

Last week, Central State defeated LeMoyne-Owen 68–53 at home and routed Simmons (NCCAA) 81–59 in a Wednesday afternoon road game.

Freshman forward Zhieyah Rolack and freshman guard Ma'Kayla Williams each scored 18 points over the two games, helping the Lady Marauders to their ninth win of the season.

KENTUCKY STATE

Saturday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. ET

Kentucky State (6-12, 5-7 SIAC) will host Central State (9-9, 7-5 SIAC) at the William Exum Center on Saturday for Mini-Homecoming.

Kentucky State moved up to the fifth spot in the west division after a narrow 64-61 victory at home over LeMoyne-Owen on Monday. Junior forward Khalia Bryant led the charge, delivering a game-high 25 points in the contest.

SPRING HILL
vs. Tuskegee – SIAC Network
Saturday, Feb. 1, at 3 p.m. ET

Spring Hill (6-13, 5-7 SIAC) will host Tuskegee (11-8, 8-4 SIAC) on Saturday in the teams’ first meeting this season. The Badgers enter the week on a two-game losing streak following losses to conference opponents.

Spring Hill fell to sixth in the west division after losing 63-46 on Saturday against Lane and losing 68-51 against Miles on Monday. Redshirt senior forward Marta Duda led the Badgers with 20 points over the two games, including a game-high 13 against Miles.

LEMOYNE-OWEN
at Rust
Saturday, Feb. 1, at 6:30 p.m. ET

LeMoyne-Owen (5-16, 2-11 SIAC) will travel to Mississippi to face Rust (NAIA) in a Saturday evening contest.

The Magicians remain at the bottom of the west division after dropping two conference games on the road, falling 68-53 to Central State on Saturday and 64-61 to Kentucky State on Monday.

Senior guard Kennedy Fuller led LeMoyne-Owen with 29 points over the two contests, delivering a game-high 14 points against Central State and adding 15 at Kentucky State.

Rust Game History: 10-5 LeMoyne-Owen (since 2011)
