ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Football Players of the Week on Tuesday, Oct. 21, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in games played last week.
Johntarrious Thomas (

Darnell Stephens (
Fort Valley State),
Donte Curry (
Fort Valley State) and
Qeanu Campbell-Caldwell (
Central State) were recognized.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – JOHNTARRIOUS THOMAS, EDWARD WATERS UNIVERSITY
Running Back | Junior | Gadsden County, Fla.
Thomas shattered the EWU Football single-game rushing record Saturday evening in the heart-breaking 31-27 loss to Benedict. Thomas rushed for 243 yards on 21 carries with one touchdown and an average of 10.8 yards per carry. Thomas broke loose for multiple 50+ rushes and added one catch for five yards.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – DARNELL STEPHENS, FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY
Cornerback | Graduate | Conyers, Ga.
Stephens was a pivotal piece in the Wildcat shutout over Savannah State. He anchored the secondary with three interceptions returned for 11 total yards as well as adding three pass breakups and two total tackles.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – DONTE CURRY, FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY
Wide Receiver | Sophomore | McDonough, Ga.
Curry had a stellar game in the punt return area. He scored the lone touchdown for the Wildcats in the 7-0 in on a 76 yard punt return for a touchdown. Curry recorded 132 punt return yards on eight attempts.
NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – QEANU CAMPBELL-CALDWELL, CENTRAL STATE UNIVERSITY
Quarterback | Junior | Long Beach, Calif.
Campbell-Caldwell threw for 304 yards on 14-27 passing, including two touchdowns against Kentucky Christian.
