SIAC Women’s Volleyball Preview: Oct. 22

ATLANTA — The importance of each match rises as the regular season winds down, with Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s volleyball programs continuing their battle for position this week.

While the West Division is ready for its second two-day cluster, the East Division will have five key matchups from Thursday through Sunday.

Last week, the SIAC saw five of its squads go unblemished in conference play. Spring Hill, Kentucky State and Lane combined for a 3-0 record in the West, and Albany State and Fort Valley State finished with a 4-0 mark in the East.

Each of the top four East Division positions are still separated by a single game, with FVSU (11-1) leading ASU (10-2) by virtue of a 3-2 win in their first meeting. Meanwhile, Spring Hill (12-0) has a commanding 6.5-game lead over second-place Central State (5-6).

For the Thursday through Sunday docket, the West Division will complete its round of divisional matchups in Memphis. Each program will take the court three times.

In the East, five matches could shake up the standings. Three of these contests will be on Thursday, when Albany State travels to Edward Waters, Savannah State welcomes Fort Valley State and Allen visits neighboring Benedict. Edward Waters will play the only weekend division games, visiting Benedict on Saturday and Allen on Sunday.

The battle in the East will continue Tuesday evening as Clark Atlanta welcomes Fort Valley State and Allen hosts Savannah State.
