SIAC Women's Volleyball Weekly Honors: Oct. 28

ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Women's Volleyball Players of the Week on Tuesday, Oct. 28, honoring student-athletes for impressive performances in matches played last week. Naomy Vergez (Edward Waters), Kayla Trawick (Miles), Autumn James (Edward Waters) and Karea Copeland (Miles) were recognized.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – NAOMY VERGEZ, EDWARD WATERS UNIVERSITY
Outside Hitter/Right Side | Graduate | La Romana, Dominican Republic
Reigning SIAC Offensive Player of the Week Naomy Vergez continued her strong play for Edward Waters, helping the Lady Tigers to a 3-1 record across four matches last week. Vergez compiled 55 kills, 38 digs and four aces. The graduate senior from the Dominican Republic recorded three double-doubles, including 11 kills and 10 digs in a loss to Fort Valley State, 19 kills and 10 digs in a win over Benedict, and 14 kills and 12 digs in a victory over Allen.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – KAYLA TRAWICK, MILES COLLEGE
Defensive Specialist | Junior | Montgomery, Ala.
Trawick, who transitioned to defensive specialist just two weeks ago, has responded with strong results. She totaled 84 digs across five matches, along with four kills, seven assists and nine service aces. Trawick posted a season-high 23 digs in the match against Kentucky State and hit double-digit digs in all four matches of the SIAC West Cluster at LeMoyne-Owen.

SETTER OF THE WEEK – AUTUMN JAMES, EDWARD WATERS UNIVERSITY
Setter | Sophomore | Gainesville, Fla.
James played tremendously for Edward Waters as she helped the Lady Tigers to a 3-1 record on the week. Transitioning to her new position as setter, she tallied 129 assists across four matches. James added 24 digs and seven aces, including a 32 assist, 10 dig double double in a victory over Albany State.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – KAREA COPELAND, MILES COLLEGE
Outside Hitter | Freshman | Newnan, Ga.
Copeland hit .251 with 69 kills, 49 digs, eight service aces and two blocks in 19 sets as Miles went 3-2 last week. She posted double-doubles against Kentucky State (14 kills, 12 digs), LeMoyne-Owen (17 kills, 10 digs) and Lane (23 kills, 11 digs).
