SIAC Women’s Volleyball Preview: Nov. 12

SIAC Women’s Volleyball Preview: Nov. 12

ATLANTA — The field is almost set. The 2025 SIAC Women's Volleyball Tournament has six of the eight teams penciled in, with the final two spots to be determined over the next four days.

First, for the easy half of the field, the West Division is set no matter what happens in this last week of play. Spring Hill College sealed the division title a few weeks ago via not losing a SIAC match and will host the tournament in Mobile, Ala., on Nov. 20-22.

In this order, Central State, Kentucky State and Miles College will play as the second through fourth seeds. Of note, Kentucky State holds the tiebreaker over Miles for the third spot by virtue of a descending-order win against Central State.

The East Division tournament qualifiers are not nearly as clear-cut, as only two of the four spots have been claimed. By virtue of winning its last five conference matches, Fort Valley State earned the East Division regular season title with a 16-2 record. Albany State grabbed the No. 2 spot with a 13-4 league record.

Battling for the final two spots, three teams will jockey for tournament berths with one game separating the trio. Savannah State holds the current third position at 11-7, while both Benedict and Edward Waters stand at 10-8. Of note, Benedict holds the tiebreaker with Allen should the two end up tied and, thus, eliminates Allen mathematically.

Looking into the next four days of competition, Thursday is the key evening with all three matches starting at 6 p.m. Benedict will host Clark Atlanta, and Fort Valley will travel to Edward Waters, while Albany State goes across Georgia to Savannah State. With a Thursday win, Savannah State would take third as the only definite scenario and team of the three who could clinch one of the two open spots.

Tuesday evening saw Albany State win over Edward Waters and Fort Valley State shut out Savannah State, separating the top two East teams from the rest of the field even further.

In last week's action, five SIAC teams did not lose in their postseason drives. Edward Waters improved its chances of making the tournament with two shutouts over Clark Atlanta and Savannah State. Fort Valley State blanked Benedict. In the West, Central State and Kentucky State both defeated Lane and LeMoyne-Owen, while Spring Hill prevailed over Miles.
